Scripture and the Body Incarnation – The Incarnation in traditional Christianity is the belief that the second person of the Trinity, also known as God the Son or the Logos (Word), "became flesh" by being conceived in the womb of Mary. The Incarnation, then, Jesus Christ is 100% God and 100% human. Orthodoxy – a belief or a way of thinking that is accepted as true or correct Orthodox View – Jesus is fully and truly human and fully and truly divine

A person who is ready to be corrected or who is unaware that what he has been saying is against Church teaching is not a heretic.  A person must be baptized to commit heresy. This means that movements that have split off from or been influenced by Christianity, but that do not practice baptism (or do not practice valid baptism), are not heresies, but separate religions. Examples include Muslims, who do not practice baptism, and Jehovah’s Witnesses, who do not practice valid baptism.

What does this mean in our lives What does this mean in our lives? How do we use this information to help us understand our own physical selves? Scripture tells us how we should take care of our bodies – read the following passages together:

1 Corinthians 6:15 “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ?” Paul tells us that our bodies are part of the body of Christ. They deserve to be respected and protected. Part of loving Christ is taking care of our bodies, and taking care of others people’s bodies because we are all parts of Christ. Anytime we show a lack of respect for the human body, we show a lack of respect for Christ. Scripture and the Body

1 Corinthians 6:19 “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?” God is present in all Temples and Churches. By telling people that their bodies are temples, Paul is saying that God is present in all of us. As a result, we must honour and respect our bodies, and the bodies of others. If we truly believe that our bodies are filled with the presence of God, we cannot say “it’s my body, I’ll do what I want with it.” Scripture and the Body

Ephesians 2:10 “We are God’s work of art, created in Christ Jesus for the good works which God has already designated to make up our way of life.” A true work of art is original and unique. Paul tells us that we are God’s works of art, therefore we are all original and unique. All of us together help to reveal the vastness of God. We all use our unique gifts and talents to honour God. In order to fully use our gifts we must first accept and recognize their value to the whole community. Scripture and the Body
