Welcome to Santa Ana College International Student Orientation

The Purpose of Orientation: Review Immigration Policies & SAC Policies Provide you with basic information about SAC & Educational Planning Review of your Placement Test Scores Assist you with class selection and on-line registration for your first semester Review with students the basic purpose of orientation Let them know that there is a VERY BRIEF introduction to the college and that SAC has much to offer in terms of our academic programs and services. Spring 2017: February 13 – June 11 Academic Calendar 2015-2016 Spring 2017: February 13 – June 11 February 13th Instruction Begins February 25th Last day to add a full-term class with add code February 26th Last day to drop a full-term class without “W” grade with enrollment fee refund for full semester classes. May 14th Last Day to Drop with “W” for full semester classes. Review academic year 16- week semester with a finals week Highlight START and END dates of semester

Drop your course(s) on-line (WebAdvisor) Last day to drop: without a “W” – Feb. 26th with a “W” – May 14th Note: You do not need instructor’s signature to drop a course “F” Grade

There is no plan for partial payment and no exceptions to this policy. Effective Practices for Success 1. Must meet with a counselor to Develop Comprehensive Educational Plan Register courses appropriately aligned with your reading and writing level 2. Must enroll and remain in 12 units at all times. Online classes and intersession classes are required to have permission from international counselor. 3. Focus on G.P.A! 2.0 GPA or higher Must maintain a grade of “C” or higher in courses. 4. Lack of attendance will result to being dropped out of class(es) by instructors without notification.

Effective Practices for Success 5. Be aware of ONLINE classes 6. You are only allowed to repeat the same course for two (2) times. The third time requires counselor’s approval. 7. You will lose priority registration when accumulating 100 units. 8. Must be enrolled in 6 units for the first summer.

Participate in Transfer Center activities, join in clubs and engage with other students. 12. Participate in on campus and off campus activities. 13. It is not recommended that you request for pass/non-pass classes or online courses.

Effective Practices for Success Important Notes! 14. Disclose transcripts/degrees from other colleges or university from any other countries. 15. You need to receive an equivalent of a “C” grade to receive “credit.” 16. If you receive non-credit, “D” or “F” grade you will not receive any unit credit and fall below twelve units. 17. Nursing major is not allowed to enroll until you discuss with counselor.

What General Ed. plan is best for me? PLAN A - Associate Degree only (60 Units Total, 24 GE Units) PLAN B - AA Degree & Transfer to the CSU (60-70 Units Total, 41 GE Units) PLAN C - AA Degree & Transfer to the UC or CSU & Some Private Univ.’s (60-70 Units Total, 39-48 Units) 19

AA-T and AS-T Degrees Highlights of the AA-T/AS-T Degrees: AA and transfer degrees for CSU’s Provides common major preparation courses for CSU’s Provides slight GPA bump for CSU admissions Example: CSU Fullerton  2.7 GPA for Fall 2014 transfer admissions Student has 2.6 GPA + .1 bump = 2.7 GPA for admissions 20

Associate Degree Usually referred to as AA or AS (Assoc. of Arts or Sciences) Offered by community colleges Requirements: Major Courses General Education Courses Plan A (24 units) Elective Courses + Total Units: Min. 60 units Examples: Business Admin., Liberal Arts, Nursing, Paralegal 21

Minimum Qualifications for an Associate Degree Obtainment of a minimum G.P.A of 2.0 Completion of 60 semester units 12 units of residency (SAC) No “N” classes count towards 60 units Must meet the proficiency requirements (Math, reading, speech and computer skills with a “C” grade or better)
