How many classes can EKU Dual Credit Students take? Qualifying Juniors and Seniors can enroll in 2 courses per semester (fall and spring) at dual credit tuition rates (maximum of 8 courses total).

EKU Dual Credit Tuition Fall 2018/Spring 2019 EKU Dual Credit Tuition is $53 per credit hour. Dual Credit Savings- Full In-state Tuition for 2018/19 (non-dual credit) is $375/cr. hr. $1125 for 3 credit hour class $966 savings @ $53 per credit hour

Dual Credit Scholarships

KY State Dual Credit Scholarship Program Managed by you and your high school through KHEAA. Students are eligible to receive tuition scholarships for 2 courses for the total of their high school careers. (2 courses totaling no more than 9 credit hours maximum). Seniors get priority.

What classes are covered by the KY State Dual Credit Scholarship (KHEAA Scholarship)? EKU Dual Credit students can register for specified credit classes from among EKU’s general education requirements. This list is in your orientation packet and also on the EKU Dual Credit website at dualcredit.eku.edu. EKU Dual Credit students may register for a course that is part of a career pathway at your high school.

EKU Dual Credit Scholarships EKU Now! Scholarship Who Qualifies? EKU Dual Credit students with a minimum 3.0 high school GPA and minimum ACT scores of 18 in English, 19 in Math, 20 in Reading and a 21 Composite. Scholarship - provides free dual credit tuition for one of your two allotted courses per semester. Whitlock Scholar Candidate EKU Dual Credit students with a minimum 3.5 unweighted high school GPA, plus minimum ACT scores of 18 in English, 19 in Math, 20 in Reading and a 23 Composite. Scholarship – free dual credit tuition for your two allotted courses per semester.

Textbooks and supplies are not included in scholarships (KHEAA or EKU scholarships) – Only Tuition.

Bookstore Information You will be responsible for the cost of your textbook if your high school does not cover textbook costs. Take the printable student schedule to bookstore to get your textbook or go to www.shopeku.com. EKU Barnes & Noble Bookstore price matches Amazon.com and BN.com for the first 7 days of the term. Specific rules apply (shopeku.com). Do not remove the shrink-wrap or open packaged text books until confirming with your instructor that they are correct. They cannot be returned if opened. Check your EKU Direct account for a digital textbook charge before ordering textbooks. Specifically PSY 200, MUH 171 and CMS 100 as well as others.

What is a digital textbook? A digital text is a text that is immediately available to you in Blackboard. Upon registration for the course, you are charged for that text. It can be a stand-alone text or a text package that includes assignments.

What is required to continue participation in EKU Dual Credit? Successful completion of courses You are expected to maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students who earn a “D” or “F” may not continue their participation until they have repeated the course in which they made the “D” or “F”, earning at least a 2.0 term GPA. Students who elect to repeat a course should contact the Office of the Registrar for registration assistance. Courses repeated by EKU Now! participants are subject to full dual credit tuition charge.* Scholarships (KHEAA and EKU) will not apply. * $53 per credit hour = $159 per three hour class

Important EKU and EKU Dual Credit Policies Account balance availability will vary. The KHEAA scholarships will be applied first. EKU Dual Credit will be applied after KHEAA scholarships. We will email students reminders to check account balances in EKU Direct. Textbooks and Supplies You are responsible for the cost of textbooks (including digital textbook packages) and course supplies if not supplied by your high school. Remember to check your EKU Direct Account for digital text costs. Digital Text – Opt Out You can opt out of the digital text and purchase a hard copy, but you will still be responsible for purchasing the access code that provides access to the digital assignments. Purchasing a hard copy and an access code, will likely be much more expensive. Opting out must be done immediately through EKU Direct. The Opt-Out deadline can be found in EKU Direct. You are responsible for Parking Passes if required. Juniors will need to reapply for their senior year.

Important EKU and EKU Dual Credit Policies FERPA Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 is in effect - regardless of age. Once a person is admitted as a student to a college or university, regardless of age, FERPA rights revert from parent to student. This means information can only be communicated to the student. Only policy information can be communicated over the telephone (even to students). EKU email is the official form of communication and can be the easiest way for you to ask questions and provide your parents/guardians with answers. Email from your EKU email and copy your parents/guardians. Instruct the EKU faculty or staff you are emailing to reply to all.

Important EKU and EKU Dual Credit Policies Class availability will vary according to semester and location. Please tell your advisor if you are taking, or plan to take, any AP classes or if you are taking additional dual credit from other sources. Students must meet both EKU Dual Credit requirements and the usual course prerequisites including any additional ACT requirements.

Examples of classes with prerequisites beyond EKU Dual Credit requirements: MAT 114-Minimum score of 22 needed on math portion of ACT MAT 120- Completion of MAT 114 with a minimum grade of “C” or a minimum score of 22 on the math portion of the ACT MAT 122 – Completion of MAT 114 with a minimum grade of “C” or a minimum score of 23 on the math portion of the ACT MAT 234 – Completion of MAT 122 with a minimum grade of “C” or a minimum score of 25 on the math portion of the ACT CHE 111/111L- Completion of MAT 114 with a minimum grade of “C” or a minimum score of 22 or higher on math portion of ACT CHE 112/112L – Completion of CHE 111/111L with a grade of “C” or better AST 135 – Completion of MAT 105 with a minimum grade of a “C” or better, or a minimum score of 20 on the math portion of the ACT.

First Day Attendance First day of class – ATTENDANCE REQUIRED! If you do not attend the first day of class, the instructor can drop you from the class for non- attendance. This policy also applies to online classes. Students who know they will be absent should contact their instructor or the academic department office PRIOR TO THE FIRST CLASS to explain their absence and request that the instructor NOT drop them from the class. http://registrar.eku.edu/FirstDayOfAttendance

Withdrawing From or Dropping a Class If you have to quit coming to class, you must WITHDRAW from or DROP your class. This must be done by the student through EKU Direct account. Detailed directions for withdrawing from, or dropping a class, are included in the orientation packet. WARNING: If you do not withdraw or drop the class you will receive an F, this stays on your transcript and makes being admitted as a freshman difficult. This can also have a negative impact on receiving financial aid as an incoming freshman. Academic Success Class Syllabus – Keep, read, and follow! An instructor may change syllabus at any time. You can be tested on something in the syllabus that you have never discussed in class (a supplemental reading for example). Focus – Prepare for class, complete assignments on time, and pay attention in class (take notes, turn off cell phones, participate, be courteous). Disruptive Behavior in Class – This can prevent other students from learning. You can face disciplinary measures from the instructor and/or the university.

Academic Integrity Cheating is defined as “an act or attempted act of deception by which a student seeks to misrepresent that he/she has mastered information on an academic exercise that he/she has not mastered.” Cheating may occur on an exam, test, quiz, laboratory work report, theme, out of class assignment or any other work submitted by a student to fulfill course requirements and presented as solely the work of the student (this includes facilitation of academic dishonesty).

Academic Integrity - Plagiarism Plagiarism is defined as, “intentionally or knowingly representing the words of another, as one’s own in any academic exercise.” Plagiarism is CHEATING and penalties range from simply affecting your grade to dismissal from the University. Plagiarism software is used by most colleges and universities. It can detect plagiarism from textbooks, online sources, Facebook, a paper submitted at another college or university. Class Attendance Be there – Be on time! Most classes require 90% attendance (arriving late usually counts as ½ class absence; leaving early may count as a whole class absence). Please check the course syllabus and speak to the instructor regarding the departmental attendance policy. It can vary by class and instructor. You can fail a course even if you have a passing grade by not following the attendance policy. You still have to attend your EKU Dual Credit class while on break at your high school. Please remember this before making vacation plans, etc…

Grade Reports Midterm and Final grades are viewable online through your EKU Direct account. Do not depend on Blackboard for your mid-term and Final Grades. Midterm grades viewable October 9 (EKU Direct/Student Service/Midterm Grades – Student Records) Final grades viewable December 19 (EKU Direct/Student Records/Official Grade Report) Midterm and Final grades are not mailed out to students, but will be communicated to your high school.

Undergraduate Scholarships If you have a 3.0 unweighted GPA and a 21 composite, you qualify for an undergraduate scholarship. Undergraduate scholarships start at $2000 per year and go all the way to $16,000 per year. These are based upon your unweighted GPA and ACT composite score. If you are interested in receiving an EKU undergraduate year, you need to apply to EKU as a Freshman by February 1. You do not need to complete an additional scholarship application. If you qualify, you will be offered a scholarship. Scholarship offers have a deadline and must be accepted before the deadline.
