Maricopa Transformation Update Design Principles for Guided Pathways & Integrated Student Support and Industry Partnerships April 4, 2018

Design Principles A common set of Design Principles was developed to guide our work with Guided Pathways and Integrated Student Support, and Industry Partnerships.

Design Principles Six topics listed below highlight elements that will guide our work system-wide for a seamless student experience. MCCCD Design Principles Fields of Interest Program Maps Advising Models Intake Processes Career Exploration Develop-mental Education Models

Fields of Interest (Meta Majors) One set of Fields of Interest (Meta Majors) across MCCCD Crosswalk with Institutes

Program Maps One set of program maps across MCCCD Consistent college collaboration to implement best practices Clear/consistent learning and student outcomes in each map Aligned transfer programs ensuring credit applicability to majors, starting with MAPP -- continued --

Program Maps (continued) Right math for each program path College-level math and English in the first academic year One program course in first term; two in second term One or more courses that allow student exploration without loss of credit

Advising Models Case management model across MCCCD Align with best practices and national standards Reduce ratio of students to advisors Nuanced to meet student needs Consistent training for advisors across MCCCD

Intake Processes Consistent practices/processes across MCCCD (e.g., business processes, technological supports) Individualized by college only for demonstrated value-add Career goals at forefront

Career Exploration Prioritized and integrated into academic advising Prioritized and integrated into coursework Focus on work-based/applied learning experiences Industry involvement in program and curriculum development

Developmental Education Models Accelerated and contextualized dev ed Aligned with best practices and national standards Scale currently successful models (co-requisite, modular, etc.)

are at the center of every decision we make. Students are at the center of every decision we make.
