Connected Rural Communities Connected to Groups & Activities -physical activities -other rec and leisure activities Connected People -mentoring -volunteering -intergenerational Youth Aging Population - boomers Older Adults  What changes are we going to make the “system” to ensure these connections happen? Connected by Active / Green Transportation -walking and cycling paths -car-pooling, rideshare, existing bus “Suicide and crime are related to isolation” (CI participant) “Isolation is just as unhealthy as smoking cigarettes.” (CI participant from CBC) “Personal connections are some of the most powerful healing tools for combatting depression.” http://mentalhealthweek.cmha.ca/your-mental-health/mental-health-fact-sheet/ “Depression is the most common mental health problem for older adults.” “Men over the age of 80 are the group with the highest suicide rate in Canada.” http://mentalhealthweek.cmha.ca/your-mental-health/seniors-mental-health/ Focus is baby boomers and older (~50 year olds and up right now)? https://www12.statcan.gc.ca/census-recensement/2011/as-sa/98-311-x/2011003/fig/fig3_2-2-eng.cfm The number of seniors aged 65 and over is projected to more than double from about 2.2 million, or 16.0 per cent of population in 2015, to over 4.5 million, or 25.3 per cent, by 2041. In 2015, for the first time, seniors accounted for a larger share of population than children aged 0–14. By the early 2030s, once all baby boomers have reached age 65, the pace of increase in the number and share of seniors is projected to slow significantly. http://www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/economy/demographics/projections/ An aging population http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/11-402-x/2010000/chap/pop/pop02-eng.htm Connected to Environment -Trails, Nature, Green Space, Gardens
