Message documents – a generic “envelope” XML Document Types Message documents – a generic “envelope” Structure documents – XML description of key family Generic Data documents – XML description of any data Query documents – XML query for any data or structure Utility, Compact and Cross-sectional documents are all based on generic “stub” document types, but are created and owned by those who create key families.

All document types are based on a single information model How Does This Work? All document types are based on a single information model Data formats can be transformed into one another (and are very similar) All key-family-specific data formats can be derived from a structure instance describing that key family automatically – mappings are standard and fixed.
