O VERVIEW AND R EQUIREMENTS General Qualifications All Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 classroom teachers According to the National Teacher of the Year Program, a classroom teacher is one who teaches a group of students every day within the confines of the classroom and does not have administrative duties No minimum years of teaching experience is required Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Responsibilities Serves as Oklahoma Ambassador of Teaching Represents Oklahoma in the National competition

S ELECTION P ROCESS Local District Teacher of the Year One of 12 Finalist for Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Selected by District Regional Selection Committee of Award-Winning Teachers State Selection Committee of civic and business leaders from the community
