Curriculum (cont.) District approved curriculum will be supplemented with technological and outside materials. Websites such as STMath, Accelerated Reader, Prodigy, and Lexia Computers will be regularly used both in the computer lab and the classroom Google Apps and Google Classroom Many of the tools we use in the classroom will be available at home
Curriculum (cont.) Third Graders will need to learn cursive handwriting (according to state standards). All writing will need to be done in cursive after winter break Practice workbooks were given to the students
Homework Homework will be sent home each night from Monday through Thursday. Per District Policy (BP.6154): 3rd graders should have between 30 to 45 minutes of homework per evening. Based on the amount of time an average student should complete the work. Occasional projects with clear instructions and deadlines.
Reading Homework 3rd Grade: 20 minutes Fill out the reading log each night Sentence starters are on the back Turn it in on Friday
Homework Record Sheet The students fill out the homework sheet at the end of each school day. The daily homework is also listed on my website.
Grading Homework will be checked and a red checkmark will be placed in the lower right corner to indicate I looked at it.
Grading (cont.) Grading is standards based Tests, projects, and in class assignments will be graded using a rubric Each skill will have its own row (a test or project may have several different standards measured). 1 2 3 4 The skill being assessed will be listed here (along with the standard identifier) The student needs improvement on this standard. The student is making progress towards this standard. The student can successfully demonstrate this standard. The student can completely and successfully demonstrate this standard.
Grading (cont.) Report Cards at the end of each trimester (November, March, June) Progress Reports in the middle of each trimester (as needed) Parent-Teacher conferences in November Graded work will be sent home regularly
Behavior Necessary for successful learning Class points to fill the marble jar (fun reward) Blue cards on their desks Some behaviors, such as fighting or repeated bullying will result in a child being sent to the principal’s office. 1 initial in one day Just a warning 2 initials in one day A small, in class consequence 3 initials in one day A call home

Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser for Green Elementary School All funds raised goes to the classroom Friday, September 28, 2018 Please wear green as that is the class’ color Sponsor Sheets were sent home on September 11
