Classroom Procedures Mrs. Robyn Russell

Don’t be Offensive You have the right to sit next to clean students Take a bath, wash your hair, and use deodorant Brush your teeth and hair Put on clean clothes If your shoes stink Put them outside to air out Put a dryer sheet in them at night Your civil rights end where your neighbor’s begin…so watch what you say!

Entering the Classroom Enter with respect Are you in dress code? Check the board for today’s agenda Get out all needed materials Anything due? If so…turn it in Test Day? Begin reviewing iPads charged and ready to go

Tardies Get seated quickly without drawing any more attention to yourself Do NOT speak to your friends/me as you enter Check the board for today’s agenda and get started Hold questions until I come to you See me about why you were tardy before you leave

Restroom Not OKAY if OKAY to go if Acting up, forgot homework, you were tardy, we have visitors, I’m lecturing/reading, we’re testing, you’ve asked every day for a week or if I say, “No, not now.” OKAY to go if Emergencies only when work is done, behavior is great, it doesn’t disturb other students’ learning, and you rarely ask.

Neatness Clean up after yourself If you drop it, pick it up If you didn’t drop it, pick it up anyway No rough edges on papers turned in If I can’t read it, I won’t grade it

Food and Drink Eat breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria You may bring water bottle with screw on caps ONLY (no lids with straws) Snacks must be eaten and disposed of before tardy bell rings

Daily Work Journals - 10 sentences each – Day One (on iPads) – do night before Vocabulary – discuss defined words Literary terms – discuss defined words Daily content - be on task at all times and be prepared

Journals Each day you will have a journal topic – write the night before in Day One and be ready to discuss. How long? 10 sentences - journal topics could be in the form of a quote, a song, a picture, or etc.

Vocabulary & Literary Terms Vocabulary Words - 5 per day to define Literary terms - 2 per day to define Also, know one example of each term Vocabulary Help and Games http://www.m-w.com http://www.sadlier-oxford.com/vocabulary/levels_a2h.cfm http://www.flashcardexchange.com/tag/sadlier-oxford

Daily Content We will read and study most of the following Short stories Poetry Novels Speeches Drama

Turning in Work Proper heading (name, date, & period) Edited for mistakes Papers in order and stapled neatly Put work in proper bin labeled for your period and not on my desk

Makeup Work if Absent You have your bell ringers Check the website if you are able and get started on any content assignments Check with me the first day you are back, whether it’s the day I see you or now Make arrangements to come before/after school or during lunch (I stay most days until 4 pm except Friday)

Substitutes You are expected to be on your best behavior when a sub is in my classroom There will ALWAYS be a handout with detailed instructions for you to follow Turn in all work before you leave class because once you leave it’s a zero Do not mistreat a sub or you will pay with added work and behavior modifications for your class period

Leaving the Classroom Do not start getting ready to go until I tell you that you can - I will try to give you at least 2 minutes each day to close up shop Make sure your area is neat (books, papers, trash, and etc.) No running, pushing, shoving, or yelling No standing at the door waiting to go I dismiss you NOT THE BELL

Anything else? There may be other things that arise and as they do, I will let you know or feel free to ask. Do you have any other questions about procedures that you are interested in knowing before you leave today?

The end.
