WELCOME TO COACH KING’SWORLD HISTORY CLASS

WELCOME Let me be the first to welcome to you to another year at Willis High School. You are in my world history course and I hope that it is a course that you can enjoy as well as a course that you will learn something that you will use for many years to come. World History is a subject that is very deep in content as well as a course that shows us why the world has the problems that it has today.

EXPECTATIONS 1. BE RESPECTFUL 2. BE ON TIME 3. BRING MATERIALS EACH DAY 4. BE ON TASK 5. DO WHAT IS ASKED OF YOU 6. BE READY TO LEARN AS WELL AS ENJOY THE DIFFERENT CULTURES THAT THIS COURSE WILL BRING US

MATERIALS YOU WILL BE PROVIDED A TEXTBOOK THAT IS PART OF A CLASSROOM SET. YOU WILL NEED A PEN OR PENCIL DAILY. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR NOTEBOOK DAILY.

WHAT NOT TO BRING TO CLASS 1. DRAMA 2. FOOD 3. ANY EXTRAS 4. EAR PHONES 5. MAKE-UP

DO’S 1. DO COME READY TO GET AFTER IT EVERYDAY. 2. DO BRING ALL MATERIALS EVERY DAY TO CLAS. 3. DO CHECK MY WEBSITE DAILY FOR ANY INFORMATION REGARDING CLASS 4. DO STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE IN THIS CLASS.

DO NOT’S 1. BRING HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA IN THIS CLASS. 2. TALK WHEN I AM TALKING 3. TALK TO ME LIKE I AM YOUR “BOY” OR “GIRL”. RESPECT. YES SIR OR NO SIR 4. ASK TO GO TO THE BATHROOM UNLESS IT’S AN EMERGENCY 5. SLEEP 6. HAVE YOUR PHONE OUT UNLESS TOLD TO DO SO.

FOOD AND OR DRINKS 1. DO NOT BRING ANY FOOD AND OR DRINKS IN THIS CLASS. THIS IS MY 13TH YEAR TEACHING AND EVERY YEAR IT HAS BECOME A PROBLEM WITH BOTTLES BEING LEFT OUT AND TRASH IN THE FLOOR. DO NOT BRING FOOD OR DRINKS.

CELL PHONE POLICY THERE WILL BE A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY WITH CELL PHONES. IF I SEE YOUR CELL PHONE OUT I WILL TAKE IT UP. YOU WILL NEED TO SEE ME AFTER MY 6TH PERIOD CLASS. I WILL HOLD THE PHONE UNTIL THEN. I WILL NOT GIVE IT BACK AT THE END OF THAT CLASS.

MAKE-UP/GIRL STUFF DO NOT DO IT. YOU SHOULD COME TO SCHOOL ALREADY PUT TOGETHER. 1ST PERIOD IS NOT THE PLACE TO PUT Y OUR FACE ON. DO NOT DO IT IN MY CLASS.

SLEEPING THERE WILL BE ZERO SLEEPING IN THIS CLASS. IF YOU ARE CAUGHT SLEEPING YOU WILL BE WARNED ONCE AND AFTER THAT YOU WILL BE GO STAND IN THE BACK OF THE ROOM.

LANGUAGE/CONDUCT 1. THERE WILL ZERO LANGUAGE IN THIS CLASS. YOU WILL WATCH YOUR MOUTH. I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ANY CURSE WORDS IN THIS CLASS. 2. DO NOT TALK ABOUT DOING ANYTHING THAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED INNAPROPRIATE IN THIS CLASS. 3. DO WHAT IS ASKED OF YOU IN CLASS. IF YOU DO NOT I WILL CORRECT YOU.

EXTRA CREDIT YOU CAN BRING THE FOLLOWING FOR 10 EXTRA POINTS ON YOUR FIRST TEST. EXPO MARKERS PENS PENCILS KLEENEX AAA BATTERIES SCISSORS

GRADING WE WILL USE A GRADING SYSTEM OF 60% OF DAILY GRADES AND 40% ON TEST GRADES IN THIS CLASS.

PROJECTS YOU WILL BE GIVEN NO LESS THAN 3 PROJECTS THIS YEAR. THESE PROJECTS NEED TO BE DONE ON YOUR OWN AND WILL BE CHECKED FOR CHEATING. THEY MUST BE ON TIME. THEY WILL COUNT AS A MAJOR TEST GRADE.

CURRENT EVENTS A CURRENT EVENT WILL BE DUE NEARLY EVERY FRIDAY THIS YEAR. A CURRENT EVENT IS TO CUT OF THE PAPER OR PRINTED OFF OF THE COMPUTER AND HAVE A BRIEF SUMMARY ATTACHED TO IT. THE SUMMARY NEEDS TO BE CLOSE TO A PAGE. I WILL GIVE YOU A TOPIC WEEKLY.

NOTEBOOKS EACH STUDENT WILL BE REQUIRED TO PURCHASE A NOTEBOOK FOR THIS CLASS. YOU WILL KEEP YOUR NOTES IN THIS CLASS. WHAT IS GIVEN OFF OF THE BOARD. NEEDS TO BE TAKEN DOWN IN YOUR NOTEBOOK. SPIRAL NOTEBOOKS CAN BE BOUGHT AT WAL-MART OR ANY OTHER STORE FOR NO LESS THAN 2 DOLLARS OR SO. YOU CAN NOT PASS THIS CLASS WITHOUT ONE.

CLASS PARTICIPATION TO GET ANYTHING OUT OF THIS CLASS YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO PUT SOMETHING INTO THIS CLASS. I WILL CALL ON YOU DURING CLASS AND I EXPECT AN ANSWER OF SOME SORT. THIS CLASS CAN BE AS FUN OR AS BORING AS YOU MAKE IT.

MY STUFF DO NOT TOUCH MY STUFF! YOU DO NOT NEED TO COME NEAR MY DESK UNLESS YOU ARE TOLD TO COME TO MY DESK. DO NOT MESS WITH ANYTHING ON MY DESK.

BOOKS CHECKING OUT BOOKS OVERNIGHT IS O.K. THERE IS A PROCESS. I WILL TAKE DOWN YOUR NAME AND THE BOOK NUMBER AND YOU WILL CHECK THAT BOOK OUT FOR THAT NIGHT. THEY NEED TO BE RETURNED THE NEXT DAY. IF YOU DO NOT BRING THE BOOK BACK THE NEXT DAY YOU WILL NOT HAVE A BOOK.
