While research has shown that parental encouragement and support is the most important indicator of a child developing college aspirations, parents who have not attended college often lack critical information that enable them to be preemptive in helping their children prepare for and become eligible for college (Hossler, Schmit, & Vesper, 1999; Saenz, Hurtado, Barrera, Wolf, & Yeung, 2007). These families must rely upon institutional agents to provide information about college. Kim and Schneider (2005) found that parents with lower levels of educational attainment benefited the most from active participation with school counselors and other school personnel about their childrens college goals. Kim and Schneiders findings indicated that the alignment of parental and student goals increased students odds of attending college the year after high school. Bryan, J., McCoy, C.H., Moore-Thomas, C. and Day-Vines, N. (2009). Who sees the school counselor for college information? A national study. ASCA Professional School Counseling, 12, RESEARCH
