SATSIGNAL Software GEO Symposium 2016
Background Retired in October 2013 – nominally Health issues in 2015 requiring emergency treatment and hospital stays in 2015 and 2016 Realisation that I may not be able or available to give the same support level as previously But I don’t want to let my users down
Automated reporting Since March 2016, daily report to EUMETSAT has been automated Simple command script running under Windows-10 Since August 2014, TelliCast statistics automated Worked with Arne van Belle on both ideas
New data MTSAT 5-channels replaced by Himawari 16 channels
New software LRPT Image Processor – for Meteor M N2 LRPT data Remove scan “distortion” Combine channels to extract science data
Software updates AVHRR EARS Manager – add Edmonton station GeoSatSignal – support GOMS and Himawari data, larger remaps GRIB Viewer – support HSAF H15 data HDF Viewer – support Fire Risk Map data, “snapshot” image output MSG Data Manager – reporting updates, support Himawari data, FY-2G data, much other new data, better data error handling WXtrack – new trackers, usability updates, DDE link updates
Licence changes Hardware locking a nuisance for users and not productive for me Now retired and desire to reduce administrative effort All programs have been upgraded to be hardware unlocked Small charge for upgrade, but covers all future versions
What is NOT planned Support for NPP data – free software already available Support for Sentinel data – free software from ESA available
Outstanding issues Segment timing Used to be sent with timestamps in order of scan Appears to have been stopped So the last segment may not signify end-of-image Hence incomplete data may be saved
Current challenges Windows-10 Does my software work under Windows-10? 24 x 7 systems Avoiding automatic reboots Tell Windows the Wi-Fi connection is metered Does my software work under Windows-10? YES!
Current challenges High Volume Service (HVS) Good antenna and LNB Fast, well-optimised PC Some very large files, not in segments Take minimum data? RAMdisk configuration
Question and answer session ... .... over to you!
