Region 6 Membership Development 2016 Executive Committee Presentation Presented by: Ralph Hogan, Region Membership Development Chair 11/7/2018

Membership Development Cycle Time to start planning what we are going to do to develop membership We Are Here 11/7/2018

Why is Membership Important? Everything you Plan… Everything you do… Affects Your Members Affects Your Region/Section Budget Expands Your Network Increases Your Members’ Network Larger Pool of Volunteers 11/7/2018

2016 Region 6 Membership Goals From the Region Director: Increase Region 6 IEEE membership by 1% over 2015 Exceed Region Senior Member goal to enhance retention Use strategic initiatives From the Membership Development Chairs: Work with each Section to identify needs Assist in the Development of a Section Plan From the Membership Recruitment and Recovery Committee Section Level Goals that role into the Region Goals 11/7/2018

Strategies to Increase Membership Recruiting new members Show them the value of joining IEEE. Use conferences, workshops, events. Advertise. Mouth to mouth Retaining existing members Make them feel welcome. Remind them of the value. Promote services so that they can try. Pay special attention to first-year members Reinstating previous members Know why they left. Understand the reasons and welcome them back. Remind them of the benefits they are missing. Use micro volunteering to recover non renewing members All three necessitate a communication plan The communication plan includes: Tom’s Arrears calling project Personalized communication from the Section

Strategies to Increase Membership Engage Young Professionals by encouraging participation in Micro Volunteering opportunities and various networking opportunities. Provide new ways to engage students, possibly in STEM and industry events. Use Mentornet to engage underrepresented individuals, students, and women to achieve a diversified Region 6 workforce. Establish a micro volunteer list for each Section in the region to write Senior Member endorsement letters. Create additional Micro Volunteering opportunities to engage members at all levels. MentorNet is the E-Mentoring Network for Diversity in Engineering and Science. It's a non-profit organization that provides a mentoring network to advance women and underrepresented individuals to obtain a diversified global workforce. Their communities include: One-on-One E-Mentoring Programs, MentorNet E-Forum, Resources and a Resume Database.

New Member Orientation All new higher-grade IEEE members are invited to participate in a New Member Orientation session designed to help members get the most out of their membership. Webinars are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at both 9:00 AM ET and 3:00 PM ET. To register for a New Member Orientation Direct members to the Welcome to IEEE Web page: www.ieee.org/start Please e-mail Denise Maestri for more information. d.maestri@ieee.org   These live webinars, which include a 30-minute formal presentation followed by Q&A, provide an overview of IEEE membership and access instructions for members-only benefits and services. Topics include managing your IEEE Account, setting up a profile on memberNet, logging into myIEEE, networking opportunities, and much more.

Leveraging IEEE Collabratec™ Keep members and non members engaged Networking with each other Local community Authoring Technical interest Career resources Keys to Success Building the community Steady stream of fresh content

Recruiting New and Former Members IEEE Collabratec is free to non-members Find potential members Profile with interests – connect with relative people, events, projects Introduce various aspects of IEEE Users remain on IEEE Collabratec even if they do not renew their membership Still connected to the organization Easily reach out to former members

How Can Sections Leverage IEEE Collabratec? Lead generation tool Member engagement tool First-year members Disengaged members Alternative member support channel

How are we going to do it? Section Plans “Making Your Section Zing” Joint Session Membership Workshops incorporating Region 6 strategic initiatives “Making Your Section Zing” Presented at the 2015 IEEE-USA Annual Meeting by Charles Lord, Region 3 Used to capture: Ideas you like Ideas you can implement Team Effort 11/7/2018
