Year 4 Forest School

First of all we had to make a comfortable seating area. Then we collected dry sticks to make the fire.

Once we had organised the seating, we learnt how to move safely around the fire

Mr Nicholson showed us how to stack small dry sticks so that the air could circulate.

We all practised creating sparks to light a fire, using flint and a piece of metal.

It took a long time, but we got the fire going. Then we toasted marshmallows

Then we sat in our circle and used exciting language to describe what we could see.

Oliver What is Fire? I asked a boy who cannot see, What is fire like? Fire is orange like the sun, Flames burn the logs to bark. Fire is blazing, sizzling hot, That dances and prances, Like flying fairies. Hear the fire roaring and crackling, Like a monstrous, roaring dinosaur. It whispers through your ear. Fire burns big buildings so they are small. It melts leaves and toasts you, Like a piece of rubber. Fire, Fire, Keep away fire!

Fire is like dancing, prancing fairies. It licks the logs like a dog, The twigs were cracking and snapping People warm their hands, Fire gleams in my eyes… Martha

Red is like dancing, prancing pixies, Orange for the blazing stripes. The wood is like a crunchy piece of celery, It warms your hands, Like a warm jug of hot chocolate. The smoke streams like a kettle, blowing out steam Flo

What is Fire? I asked a boy who cannot see, What is fire like? Fire said he, Is like a storming, twirling tornado, Engulfing twigs like theyre, Helpless buildings in its path. Its like dancing prancing fairies Doing a dance. It is roaring like the King of animals, The lion. It crunches the twigs like a jaguar Biting its meat. Jem Wyatt

Isabella Fletcher-Orr Its like prancing dancing fairies, In the midnight sky, said he. As the tickling flames tickled, the sizzling hot wood. Its the sound of roaring lions, As the pixies dance. While children sit round The blazing fire, in the wood. It fills your mouth with steaming hot fire. The sizzling, snapping logs try to escape the licking flames.

Martha Poke I asked a boy who couldnt see, What is fire like? It is like prancing, dancing fairies Swirling and swaying through the wind. The roaring flames tickle the wood underneath, The blazing, burning fire licks the sticks like a dog. The sizzling snapping flames Whisper to the wind, As the sticks crack underneath. Fire is like a dream!

Emily Myers What is Fire? Orange the colour of a roaring lion on the horizon. Yellow the colour of the sun set in the evening. The flames of fire licking the wood. Fire is like the Summer breeze.
