CONTEXT 3.9 million children are living in poverty in the UK but little is known about how children experience food insecurity, how it impacts on their lives and what could be done about it The Trussell Trust reports giving out food parcels to 500,000 people in 2014/15, of which 50% were children UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation estimates 8.4 million people are living in food insecure households in the UK UNICEF’s estimates 10% of British children are living in severely food insecure households – small sample

BACKGROUND Started by Lindsay Graham following on from APPG working on School Food Recommended that policy makers need to hear children’s voices Lindsay approached Food Foundation. 18 months building support for an Inquiry Focus on how we should measure food poverty Calling on government to do a national measurement Food Foundation - co-ordination role

Why “Children’s Future Food Inquiry”? Talking to lots of different kids. Allows their voices to lead Report will set framework for policy going forward Needs to look at obesity and junk food advertising not just food poverty Broad framing will bring all the evidence together in one report
