Aim: How did the colonial experience under Great Britain lead to war for independence? Geography essays due today. Leave on corner of desk. I will be around to pick up. Do Now: Answer the following in your Notebooks. (Hint: Global History Age of Exploration Economic System?) What kind of Economic System was Operating in British North America?

British Mercantilism Economic policy used by the British in which the American Colonies served as a source of raw materials and a market to sell goods. Raw materials from colonies  England makes goods  sells goods 2 colonies for Profit

Why? Results? Salutary Neglect Period of time (1607-1763) when the British were lenient with the colonies Why? British leave colonies alone because they are making them $$ (profits) Results? Leads to the development of independent colonial trade practices as well as a self sufficient government. Colonies begin to trade on their own and govern themselves.

The Policy of Salutary Neglect “… I know that the Colonies in general owe little or nothing to any care of ours, and that they are not squeezed into this happy form by the constraints of watchful and suspicious government, but that, through a wise and salutary neglect, a generous nature has been suffered to take her own way to perfection; when I reflect upon these effects, when I see how profitable they have been to us…” In Edmund Burke's 1775 "Speech on Conciliation with the Colonies," the term "salutary neglect" was first used.
