Overview of the Returns Infant schools: EYFS Profile, Phonics for Year 1 and Re-check for Year 2 and KS1 Return. Primary schools are required to complete the same returns as the Infants, and the KS2 Return. Junior schools are required to complete the KS2 return. In addition, Junior schools will need to import the wizards for KS1, Phonics and EYFS in order for data from your feeder schools to be available within your SIMS system. I will now review the returns which you will need to complete in 2017 depending on your schools setting. For Infant schools: EYFS Baseline, EYFS Profile, Phonics for Year 1 and Re-check for Year 2 and KS1. Primary schools will be required to complete the same returns as well as the KS2 return. There are 17 statutory Profile Aspects or Early Learning Goals to enable the recording of the End of Year Assessment results for Reception year Pupils. They make up the seven Prime and Specific areas of Learning and Development that pupils must be helped to work towards. You will be familiar with this return and is completed as in previous years. Schools that have been using the SIMS termly or half termly tracking will be able to convert the data entered in the second half of the summer term into the Early Learning Goals which will automatically display in the Early Years Foundation Stage Wizard. Follow the guidance in presentation PPT3 and the full step by step notes.

Overview of the Returns – Phonics Y1 and Y2 Re-Check – See PPT4 The Phonics Screening assessments comprise of an annual screening check that is assessed by a teacher. This consists of 40 words, both real and made up, read by each pupil to a teacher. Each word that the pupil pronounces correctly is awarded a single mark and the total mark for this test is 40. The threshold mark is normally 32 out of 40. Data is collected for all pupils in year 1 and any pupils in year 2 who did not take the test during year 1 or who did not achieve the expected level. The AMPA folder is installed as part of the SIMS upgrade. The Import Assessment Manager Resources dialog will prompt you to import the new and updated Assessment Manager resources. Please see the next slide and an alternative method of importing the Wizards. Installing the AMPA Resources The AMPA resources provide the Key Stage Wizards and other templates required for the End of Key Stage process in SIMS Assessment. The Import Assessment Manager Resources dialog will prompt you to import the new and updated Assessment Manager resources. Please see the next slide and an alternative method of importing the Wizards from Slide 12

There is no option not to import the resources. The No button has been removed from the dialog to ensure the new resources are imported as soon as possible. If you click on Remind me later button you will continue to be presented with the Import Assessment Manager Resources dialog each time you access SIMS until the new resources have been imported. This import does take some time to complete as it will import a whole range of other assessment resources, even if you do not wish to use them. If you are using other software to record your on-going termly assessments, for example Target Tracker or Pupil Asset you may not want all of the additional resources. You can therefore select the AMPARK resources only. Alternatively, untick all of the selections and select Yes. This action will effectively stop the dialog box appearing each time you log into SIMS. If you do this, you will need to import the Key Stage wizard files manually directly from the AMPA folder.
