A new Officer may feel like this. (Pause for the participants to read the slide.) But once we have learned a few of the basics…………

Help! Where do I begin? ….and learn which reference book has the answer you are seeking…..

A Good Laugh Recharges Your Battery …..Author Unknown Once again, we will be laughing as we learn. (Pause to give the participants time to read the slide.) An efficient and thriving organization is managed with rules and regulations. When initiated as a member of Daughters of the Nile, you took an obligation to obey the Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Order. As part of the Installation of Officers Ceremony, the Queen promises to see that the Bylaws are obeyed. We have several resources to refer to when serving as an Officer of a Temple. These books are referred to as treasures, because they are invaluable! Learning about the resource books is also the first step you take from “Princess to Queen.”

What is Inside Our Treasure Box? The First Step What are these treasures? (Have a volunteer reach into the treasure box, find the Ritual of Daughters of the Nile, and hold it up for all to see.) In the following slides, red text indicates an answer to a quiz question. The First Step

RITUAL of Daughters of the Nile This is our most valuable treasure. Within this cover are the lessons that are the foundation of our Order. It is one of two instructional books for the ritualistic ceremonial work for our order. The Ritual is written like a play and contains a script for all of the players.* There is italics print in the Ritual, which we call “fine print,” because it fine-tunes the instructions. What will we find inside this treasure? (Pause and wait for answers from the participants. When all have had the opportunity to contribute to the discussion, announce the remaining topics found inside the Ritual.) The Proclamation from the Founders of our Organization.* Temple set-up for a Stated Session/Ceremonial Items needed to open a Temple and for a Ceremony of Initiation The Order of Business for all Stated Sessions* Methods for Balloting and Taking the Password The Ritualistic Work: Short Form Opening, Amplified Opening, Ceremony of Initiation, Closing, Installation Ceremonies, and Burial and Memorial Services An individual member may own a personal copy of the Ritual. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV Official Temple Properties) Four (4) Rituals are included in the Official Temple Properties. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV, Section 1. Ritual)    * Answer to a quiz question

FLOOR CHARTS for SUBORDINATE TEMPLES This is the second book of two resources for our Ceremonies. * The Ritual and Floor Charts must be used together. By hearing its title, what do you think this treasure contains? (Pause and wait for answers from the participants. When all have had the opportunity to contribute to the discussion, announce the remaining topics found inside the Floor Charts.) It supplements the fine print of the Ritual: Flag Protocol* Contains a diagram of ideal Temple set-up* Diagrams of the Floor Work for the: Amplified Opening Balloting Escort & Introduction of Distinguished Members Ceremony of Initiation Golden Links of Fellowship Installation Ceremony Informal Closing of the Bible  An individual member may own a personal copy of the Floor Charts. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV Official Temple Properties) Eight (8) Floor Charts are provided to some Officers as part of the Temple Properties. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV, Section 5. Floor Charts for Subordinate Temples)    * Answer to a quiz question

HISTORY OF THE FOUNDING OF DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE History of the Founding of the Daughters of the Nile, the Canadian Trust and the Daughters of the Nile Foundation   Not only will you find photos of the Founders, the story of the beginning of the Daughters of the Nile, and the list of Supreme Queens and the year each one served, but also a listing of all the Temple names, how to pronounce the name,* and what it means. The list of Temple names and the pronunciation of their names is essential for a Mistress of Ceremonies or anyone who must be able to pronounce a name correctly. This book is an excellent resource for a Founders Day Program. An individual member may own a personal copy of the History of the Founding of Daughters of the Nile. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV Official Temple Properties) * Answer to a quiz question

SUPREME TEMPLE DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE ANNUAL SESSION PROCEEDINGS Facilitator: A new book is printed each year following Supreme Session. It contains a narrative description of the daily happenings at the convention. You will find information about each Temple for that year, i.e., when the Temple meets, what months it does not meet, how many members it has, the Queen’s and Pr. Recorder’s names, and the names of all the Delegates attending that Supreme Session. There is also a listing of all the Past Queens who served each Temple, and each Temple’s donation to the Foundations and Shriners Hospitals for Children®. * This book is essential in analyzing the success and growth of a Temple. By using the Annual Proceedings, you can gather annual data and thereby chart the growth or downward trend of a Temple. The year of the Annual Session is included on the front of the book for easy reference. * Answer to a quiz question

SUPREME TEMPLE BYLAWS PART I PART II The Supreme Temple is the governing body for all of the Daughters of the Nile Temples. The Supreme Temple Bylaws are contained in the green binder under tab three, Part I Supreme Temple. The local Temples are called Subordinate Temples. The Supreme Temple Bylaws that govern the Subordinate Temples are under tab four in the green binder and labeled Part II Subordinate Temple Bylaws. (Show the tabbed sections.) Inside this book are the rules and policies of the Supreme Temple, which are applied consistently throughout all the Daughters of the Nile Temples. When a member is initiated, she agrees to abide by these Bylaws. Due to changes that may occur throughout the years as the organization grows, the members may amend the Bylaws through the legislative process at the Annual Supreme Session. If you have a question about the rules and regulations, you will find the answer in the Supreme Temple Bylaws. Examples are: the eligibility requirements for membership, the Delegates to Supreme Session, and the required number of Stated Sessions per year. * An individual member may own a personal copy of the Supreme Temple Bylaws. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV Official Temple Properties) Six (6) Supreme Temple Bylaws are provided to the Elective Officers as part of the Temple Properties. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV, Section 3. Supreme Temple Bylaws, Protocol, and Manual of Procedures)   * Answer to a quiz question

PROTOCOL Protocol is also housed in the green binder. It is found behind the fifth tab. Flag Protocol, Dress Code, Introductions, Banquet Seating, * Outline for Installation, and the Supreme Queen’s visit are explained in Protocol. An individual member may own a personal copy of the Protocol. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV Official Temple Properties) Six (6) copies of Protocol are part of the Temple Properties and provided to the Elective Officers. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV, Section 3. Supreme Temple Bylaws, Protocol, and Manual of Procedures) * Answer to a quiz question

MANUAL OF PROCEDURES All of our laws are found in the Supreme Temple Bylaws and Temple Bylaws, but if you want to find out the procedures to follow, you will find the processes in this manual. It will answer your questions about how and when. You will find this manual in the green binder in the sixth tabbed section.   Inside this book, you will find the procedures for Clubs, Membership,* Fundraising, Stated Sessions * and the Duties of the Elective Officers* and Committees. An individual member may own a personal copy of the Manual of Procedures. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV Official Temple Properties) Six (6) Manual of Procedures are provided to the Elective Officers as part of the Temple Properties. (Supreme Temple Bylaws, Part I, Article IV, Section 3. Supreme Temple Bylaws, Protocol, and Manual of Procedures) * Answer to a quiz question

YOUR TEMPLE BYLAWS and STANDING RULES Each Temple develops and approves its own Bylaws and Rules. Important information found in the Temple Bylaws is the amount of annual dues, where, when and how often the Stated Sessions are held. Some examples of other financial commitments that are included in the Bylaws may be an allotment for the Installation of Officers, Supreme Session expenses, the outgoing Queen’s Past Queen’s Jewel, and the Supreme Queen’s Official Visit. The duties of the Temple’s Elective Officers are also included.

REFERENCE BOOK FOR CEREMONIAL ASSISTANTS Reference Book for Ceremonial Assistants Daughters of the Nile The Reference Book for Ceremonial Assistants is a resource that can be purchased and read by any interested member. You do not need to be a Ceremonial Assistant to gain knowledge from this book. Valuable sections of this book include the “Helpful Tips” for each Officer. The Queen or Ceremonial Assistant may copy these pages and distribute at the first meeting of the Officers. Detailed instructions of Princess Tirzah’s Altar Work are found in this book. Another section, “How to Memorize” is geared for the Officer who is having difficulty memorizing her part. If you are interested in learning more about our Ritual and floor work, you may enroll in the Ceremonial Assistants Training class currently offered at the Annual Supreme Session.
