The Road to Revolution 1745 - 1776 America is treated unfairly by the British. America is ignored by the British. The Declaration of Independence is written. The shot heard around the world starts the Revolution.

Major Causes of the War The Stamp Act - Taxation without Representation. The Tea Act and Boston Tea Party. The Intolerable acts - Increased the power of the royal governor.

George Washington Legendary military leader. His strategy was to wait for foreign help. Known as the father of our country.

Cornwallis His fatal mistake of moving his main army to the Yorktown peninsula during the final battle caused the Americans to win the Revolution.

The Battle of Saratoga Turning Point of the war. Convinced Europeans that America could win. Caused the French to join the war.

Life on the home front People who weren’t in the military were called Civilians. Civilians were often subject to food shortages and military attack Congress printed Continentals (paper money) to pay and supply troops.

Final Resolution The Americans win! Cornwallis’ fatal mistake ends the war. The king wants to keep fighting, but Parliament voted in favor of peace.

Major effects of the war A new nation was created of 13 independent states. The Declaration of Independence cemented ideas of equality and liberty in the American mind. Other countries, such as France were inspired by the constitution.
