Handsworth Rebuild The project has the following target dates: Design Development September/October 2018 Construction Documents March 31, 2019 Building Permit May 31, 2019 Tender Close May 31, 2019 Contract Award May 31, 2019 Construction Commencement August 31, 2019 Occupancy August 31, 2021 Final Completion December 31, 2021 $62.3 million has been approved for a fully funded, brand new expanded Handsworth Secondary School. This includes building for 1400 students (birth stats from censes, can rev stats, student registration, transition rates and 5 year housing projections. 2 million equipment fee. Estimated to last 40 to 80 years. Build to seismic standard to get out. Will have a plain field, if we wanted upgraded field, night lighting, score board and track, auditorium that all requires fundraising. The current grade 8s may see the new building if they are lucky, hence if we want our children to have a school that has all the amenities we want for them it is the elementary school parents that need to step up.

School Design and Input Team(s) What does the future of education look like in your specific teaching area? How will students use the learning spaces? What specific design elements do you need in the areas in which you work? What technology do you need? What staff and student storage should be provided? What equipment needs to be accommodated in the learning spaces? What furniture needs to fit into the design? The steering committee has NVPAC rep – Amanda and HPAC chair – Carolyn. They are looking for parent feedback and 20 parents showed up to the April 16 meeting (2 from Montroyal). The PAC chairs are putting together a survey and will be looking for parent leads to advocate for the school through: school trustee, DNV, Provincial Government, community organizations, grants, and local business.
