Development, relief and Education for Alien Minors Act What is the Dream Act? Development, relief and Education for Alien Minors Act Bill introduced to senate in 2001 Multiple versions introduced 2010 was the closest year for the bill to pass Passed by the House of Representatives Fell 5 votes short in the senate Requirements Under 18 yrs old when initial entry to U.S. Proof of arrival before age 16 Proof of residence in U.S for 4 consecutive years after arrival Graduated High school/GED/Enrolled into high education Be of good moral character Pay a fee Pass background check Failed to pass legislation

Dream Act of 2017 70% of likely voters from all different political parties support it Support has been from leaders in the military, business, faith, and education fields Direct citizenship for people looking for US citizenship who are: Undocumented Have DACA or temporary protected status And: Graduate from U.S high schools and attend college Enter the workforce Enlist in the military DACA would be terminated Trump administration ended it as of Oct. 5, 2017 No more applicants were accepted after that date Turn DACA in a formal legal program to eventually allow dreamers to become citizens

Dreamers Term used to describe undocumented children brought to the U.S and attend school Youth who have hopes and DREAMS for their future Young people who are fighting for the chance to stay in the U.S, the only country they know

DACA Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Took ground after the failure of the Dream Act Obama introduced in 2012 Allows children brought here to receive a renewable 2 year period of deferred action from deportation Does not provide path to citizenship 2014 Obama announced his intent to expand DACA Permits start to expire March 5th, 2018 on individual cases Judges ruled that it is unconstitutional
