Advisory vs. Homeroom Advisory Homeroom Attendance, Daily Bulletin, Announcements, Distribute Forms Development of relationships between students and the Advisor What is the difference between Advisory and Homeroom….Aren’t they the same? Advisory vs. Homeroom – The two are NOT the same. Similarities – attendance and information dissemination – Daily Bulletin, informational flyer, etc. Difference – advisory is focused on developing relationship (pilina) between students and the advisor.

Advisory Objectives Peer Bonding Academic Goal Setting Discover Uniqueness & Foster Appreciation of Differences Foster peer bonding – provide an environment and activities that will foster bonding so that students will feel accepted by peers and kumu Assist with academic goal setting – help student cope w/academic concerns and set goals which will promote positive school experiences. Advisory Objectives Self Esteem Good Citizenship Shared Decision Making Communication and Relationships Self Esteem – build self esteem in students thru activities so that they become confident, capable young adolescents who accept responsibility for their actions. Good Citizenship – provide opportunities for students to contribute to the kaiaulu and thereby promote good citizenship. Shared Decision Making – provide opportunities for shared decision making. Communication and Relationships – Thru advisory improve communication and relationship at home and in school.

ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi TRIBES Agreements Classroom Recess Assembly Dining Hall Any where The ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘I TRIBES Agreements are to be practiced throughout the school day. The Agreements should be applied to life anywhere and every where. The Agreements are basic guidelines for courteous and respectful communication and interactions. E Hō‘ihi: Show Respect (Mutual Respect) – demonstrate respectful behavior at all times to peers and adults E Ho‘olohe pono: Listen Carefully (Attentive Listening) – demonstrate respect by listening carefully to directions, discussions, etc. Mai ‘Ōlelo ‘ino: No Talk Stink (No Put Downs) – demonstrate respect by speaking positively of others and self. E Kāpae: Pass (Right to Pass) – each person has the right to pass in discussions (not classwork or homework) and then the kumu will circle back and ask the question again. E Mahalo Aku: Be Thankful (Show Appreciation) – demonstrate respect by showing appropriate appreciation to others.

When Does Advisory Meet? Advisory meets 3-4x a week. Usually on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On a Panina Schedule, Advisory will alternate between Grade Level Chapel and Advisory.
