Microsoft Dynamics 365 – Purchasing & Supply Process at AltaSteel Presented by: Cheryl Laird, Strategic Procurement Manager Leanne Waye, Supply Chain Specialist, Inventory & Planning Yi He, Strategic Supply Chain Lead Date: February, 20, 2018

Who We Are AltaSteel is an Edmonton based, Canadian manufacturer of prime quality steel products from recycled scrap steel generated within the Alberta community. AltaSteel is a producer of rolled steel long products for the mining, construction, automotive and engineering industries. The company operates steelmaking, hot rolling and heat treatment facilities and has an installed production capacity in excess of 330,000 tons/year. We supply western Canadian businesses and export to the USA and Mexico. As raw material, we use in excess of 300,000 net tons/year of scrap steel arising from Edmonton and greater Alberta, thereby contributing to the recycling of waste in our community We have been operating since 1955, and currently have 360 employees. Part of a global network of companies under Moly-Cop, headquartered in Sydney Australia with sites in Australia, Indonesia, Chile, Peru, Mexico, USA, and Canada.

Dynamics 365 Profile AltaSteel is implementing Dynamics 365 in two phases. Phase 1: finance, purchasing, supply chain and maintenance Phase 2: customer, sales order processing and inventory AltaSteel went live with Phase 1 in October, 2017 Phase 2 is tentatively schedule for a November/December 2018 implementation.

Ongoing Challenges More transactional steps needed to complete operations. Reduction of Consolidation capabilities. Pricing intelligence updates are manual (trade agreements). Gaps in process such as Landed Cost demand increased number of customizations in the system. Designed for use within a barcoded warehouse which AltaSteel does not have

Lessons Learned Communication is key to all elements of project streams Continuity of service with Consultants is critical to project Subject Matter Experts are required from project concept End to End Business testing is a requirement Silo testing causes longer term problems Well documented processes and training documents are critical to success User interaction increased exponentially in terms of people to support

Summary We are only 4 months into the new system. Our focus is on bringing efficiency to system and processes. Many workarounds in place across the solution. Business requires additional resourcing to support changes to work processes. Visibility of transactions limited due to lack of reporting capabilities. Microsoft Support and continued consultancy is a must have.
