Presentation transcript:

Earth’s Water (cont.) Glacier - large moving mass of ice Lake - large body of water surrounded by land River - natural, fairly large stream of fresh water flowing in a definite course

Ask the children if they can locate where on the United States map might important landforms and hydrospheric locations be located. For example, questions could be like “where are the mountains” or “where are the rivers”. See if they can identify landforms and hydrospheric areas on other maps as well to test proficiency and understanding of Earth’s land and water after the lecture.

Earth’s Ocean Floor Diagram of Earth’s ocean floor structure.

Plate movement affects Topography Rift Valley - a long, deep valley formed by the separation of two lithospheric plates.

Plate movement affects Topography Mid Ocean Ridge - Area between two divergent plates where magma rises and forms areas of increased elevation on the ocean floor.

Plate movement affects Topography Deep Ocean Trench - A deep, linear valley in the ocean floor at a subduction zone where two plates are convergent.
