Homework instructions: Log into ArcGIS (link on Geowilmington) Use the next 3 slides to help you label your map You need to label using codes Do not colour: Ice sheets = IS Plains = PLN Mountain Range= MR Plateau= PLAT If you have time label the ocean features also Mid-ocean ridges: MOR Ocean trenches: OT Continental shelves: CS Abyssal plains: AP

Terrestrial topography (Ice sheets) Turn on layer 8 only Ice sheets are large and white. Altitude over 2000m. Use pencil and write “IS” on your map

Terrestrial topography – (Plains, Mountain ranges, Plateaus) Layers 2 and 3 only. Plains are green. Altitude under 200m. In pencil write: “PLN” Mountain ranges are brown in narrow belts. Altitude 2000m. In pencil write: “MR” Plateaus in yellow/brown. Mostly 1000m (from 400m to 5000m). In pencil write “PLAT”

Marine topography Layers 4, 5 and 6 Mid-ocean ridges are lightish blue. Depth approx. 3000m. In pencil write: “MOR” Ocean trenches are dark blue in very narrow belts. Depth 6000m. In pencil write: “OT” Continental shelves are very light blue. Depth less than 100m. In pencil write “CS” Abyssal plains are large dark blue areas. Depth 5000m. In pencil write “AP”
