Reception - How to help your child at home: Review the weekly phonics check list in your child's reading folder to see which letter sounds they are covering. Listen to your child read regularly. Look at the inside cover of the reading book to check best phonics practice. Encourage your child to spell high frequency words correctly by learning the weekly key words highlighted in their spelling books. Regularly use these words at home to practise and consolidate the understanding of each word, how it is correctly spelt, and how to use each word in a sentence. Use the method of: Look, Say, Cover, Say, Write & Check. Additional Spelling activities could include playing spelling games online.
