THE NEW YORK TIMES INDEX A BOOK OF RECORD Located on the East Wall of the Current Periodicals Room Call No: AI21.N44 (Map)Map

Contains citations for news items; feature articles; editorials; editorial cartoons; obituaries; commentaries; sports articles; business and financial news; and reviews of books, art exhibitions, dance, movies, music, restaurants, theater, and television programs. Abstracts "significant news, editorial matter and special features." Covers the weekday and weekend papers as well as the City, New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester, and Connecticut regional sections. Classed in one list by subject, geography, organization, or personal name. Arranged alphabetically and then chronologically under each heading. Contains headings, subheadings, and secondary subheadings. "Entries of unusual interest are set in boldface type." The New York Times Index

The index is published semi-monthly, with quarterly cumulating and an annual cumulating. Hint! Articles pertaining to relations between two or more countries will always be "put under the name of the smaller country (or the one least often in the news)."
