INFORMATION SESSION
FSCJ PROMISE FSCJ Promise is a means to eliminate the financial debt associated with higher education that often stands in the way for many students who wish to pursue higher education. Aside from the benefits this provides for the student, FSCJ Promise also supports the local economy through the preparation of tomorrow’s workforce.
GOALS
- Serve up to 1,000 new first-time-in-college students annually Goals - Help local Duval and Nassau county students create financial sustainability while removing economic barriers and providing an accessible and affordable pathway to degree completion - Build broad public support in creating a college-going culture while increasing student persistence and degree completion for transfer or gainful employment - Fully fund the first two years at FSCJ (tuition, fees and books) leading to a successful associate degree for eligible students - Serve up to 1,000 new first-time-in-college students annually
HOW PROMISE WORKS
How Promise Works Access to mentorships, workplace coaching, paid internships, college work study, tutoring and many other college resources FSCJ Promise grants are awarded to eligible students after all PELL, scholarships, or other grant aid resources have been applied to tuition, fee and books costs for the semester FSCJ will contribute up to $700 toward books each semester Students who maintain eligibility requirements may continue in Promise for up to two years
ELIGIBILITY
Students in FSCJ’s service area Eligibility #1… Students in FSCJ’s service area Duval or Nassau county resident who graduated from a Duval or Nassau county public, private or charter high school or home-school program within the last five years
Fall 2018 as a degree-seeking student Eligibility #2… First time in college - Since graduating high school, student has not attended a college/university prior to Fall 2018 as a degree-seeking student
Eligible for a Federal Pell Grant Eligibility #3… Eligible for a Federal Pell Grant Must file Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2018-19 academic year and qualify for any level of PELL Grant
Enroll as full-time student Eligibility #4… Enroll as full-time student Enroll in 12-15 credit hours of courses (approximately 4-5) each semester in a program leading to an associate degree
Fall semester start only… Eligibility #5… Fall semester start only… Students must begin in Fall Semester 2018

Apply Apply for Federal aid / FAFSA Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov prior to July 1 in order to meet priority deadlines - Designate FSCJ (School Code - 001484) on your FAFSA If selected for “verification,” please provide the requested documents to FSCJ promptly Only “complete” FAFSA submissions will be evaluated for Promise eligibility and awarding
Apply Apply for FSCJ Promise - 7-10 days after you have submitted your application to FSCJ, access the Scholarship site and complete the “FSCJ Promise” application fscj.edu/promise
Apply Participate in an FSCJ orientation - Meet with a Student Success advisor to develop an Academic Degree Plan (ADP) prior to start of fall semester

MAINTAINING ELIGIBILTY
Maintaining Eligibility Keeping the Promise Maintain a 2.0 grade point average in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester for up to four semesters (summer not included) Maintain continuous enrollment until degree completion (Fall/Spring, Fall/Spring) Serve a minimum of 30 hours of community service per academic year through FSCJ’s Office of Student Engagement or Center for Civic Engagement
Maintaining Eligibility Keeping the Promise Students who do not maintain continuous enrollment (depart, drop out, low grades, etc.) are not eligible to return to Promise Students who lose PELL eligibility will not be allowed to continue in Promise
