DO NOW Why do you think we have to learn about PLOT STRUCTURE? Explain in 3 sentences

Review What is the meaning of…..? Imagery- picture in your mind (5 senses) Personification- Human like traits to non-human things (i.e. Animals, Objects) Dialect- A Regional/ Time specific version of language (written like it sounds) Figurative Language- Non-literal expressions Metaphor: Comparison of 2 things that are NOT alike, but have a common link Simile: Comparison of 2 things that are NOT alike, but have a common link (Using LIKE or AS)

Setting a purpose As you read, pay attention to the clues that help you understand the relationship between the boy and his father. Write down any questions you have while reading.

Guided Practice pg. 171-174 L 5-12 Identify 2 examples of personification L 47-48 Explain what MR. Jetro Bass is saying and to whom L 57-61 Find the text in which Mr. Bass asks Gustus what is bothering him. Restate in your own words. L 62-79 Identify lines of dialect. They do NOT use like or as in the comparison, which is how they differ from similes. L 220-229 Identify 2 examples of figurative language and then describe in your own words.
