Masters Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) MEPN Program Overview Accelerated and Advanced 3 year program of study Potential Students: Those desiring to become a RN with advanced knowledge and skills befitting graduate preparation Applicants must identify a MS specialty area at the time of application It is essential that you research the different MS specialty areas thoroughly in advance, that you reflect carefully on your personal interests, strengths, dislikes, talents, and inclinations so as to make the most informed decision possible. MEPN Entrance Requirements Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in any field except nursing Persons with highly specialized Bachelor degrees (BFA, MFA, BE, BM, etc.) have additional entrance requirements – see web site) Undergraduate GPA minimum 3.0 Statistics (3 quarter or 2 semester units) Human Nutrition (3 quarter or 2 semester units) Psychology course (3 qtr. or 2 sem. units) Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology: each with Lab All coursework must be completed by the application deadline; verified by transcript GRE (taken within last five years) UCSF School of Nursing

MEPN Entrance Requirements - 2 While NOT required for admission to MEPN, students must have completed: 24 quarter units of natural, behavioral, and social science coursework – including: 6 units of communication, and a basic writing course; to be eligible to take the RN licensing exam at the conclusion of the first MEPN year’s coursework. Master’s Core Curriculum Core Courses: N200 Prologue N262A & B Scholarship & Research N245A & B Clinical Prevention & Population Health N234 A & B Project Planning Series N241 Leadership N200.01 Epilogue Socio-Cultural Courses Interprofessional Health Ed Curriculum Minor Courses (if applicable) CNS and NP students have clinical core curriculum content: a.k.a. “3 P’s” Advanced Health Assessment Advanced Pathophysiology Adv. Clinical Pharmacology/Lifespan The MS program is to be completed in two calendar years. This will include summer sessions for most specialty areas. A Comprehensive Exam or Thesis is required prior to graduation. At a minimum, the program consists of 30– 36 units of coursework and 8 units of graduate professional work. Overall unit requirements vary by specialty area. In addition to the Master’s Core, other courses specific to each specialty area are required. These core course requirements are subject to change. PhD in Nursing Program Overview Highly Individualized and Mentored Course of Study during which you will learn the research process within your area of focus Program of study average: 4 years, 5 months Range: 3 – 7 years. Doctoral (PhD) Program in Nursing Entrance Requirements Web Link A one year minimum of professional nursing experience BSN to PhD is possible. An undergraduate Grade Point Average of 3.2 If a master’s degree has been earned, a GPA of 3.5 is expected Transcripts (two copies from each school, with minimum GPA of 3.2 undergraduate and 3.5 graduate) Congruency between applicant’s goal statement and chosen areaofresearch interest Four recommendations / reference letters GRE (taken within last five years), see www.gre.org TOEFL (required for international applicants, minimum score of 84 on internet-based TOEFL), see www.toefl.org Statistics – required, a “recent” course within 3 years preferred Completion of a Research course Computer literacy Application Deadline: December 15th (extends to February 1st if openings remain available in study/research area).
