2016-17 Administration Procedures and Policies P.E.R.T. 2016-17 Administration Procedures and Policies

What is the PERT? The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) is used to determine if a student is ready for college credit courses in math and reading. Math can be used as a concordant score for ALG 1. The test is computer-adaptive and administered online through McCann Associates College Success testing platform. Paper-based and large print paper tests will be available for students who require these accommodations.

updates HB 7069 – 11th graders are no longer required to take PERT based on their grade 10 reading and math scores However, each student who does not achieve a level 3+ on a statewide standardized assessment must be ‘evaluated’ to determine the nature of the student’s difficulty, area of academic need, and strategies for academic support These students must be covered by one of three options (federal required student plan such as IEP, school wide progress monitoring plan or individual monitoring plan) PERT math will be considered the final exam for 12th graders enrolled in the math for college readiness course The state no longer funds PERT District PERT policy

Who Should Take the PERT? We will offer PERT Math Sept., Dec., and May for students who took, but did not pass ALG 1 EOC. Students will need a score of 97 or above to satisfy the graduation requirement. PERT Math will still be given to Math for College Readiness students (12th graders) at the end of the course (schools set dates). PERT Reading, Math and Writing will be available for potential dual enrollment students in Nov., March, and July.

2016-17 PERT Testing Window

Test Details How many questions are on the PERT? Each PERT subtest has 30 questions (25 are operational questions and 5 are field test items). How long is the PERT? PERT is untimed and computer adaptive, but it takes approximately 30 minutes to complete the math and writing subtests and 60 minutes to complete the reading subtest. Can a student take all three subtests in one sitting? A student is permitted to take all subtests in one sitting, but this is not the recommended policy.

PERT Scores What are the college-ready cut scores for PERT? The scaled score for each subtest ranges from 50-150. The state established new cut scores for PERT tests taken on or after October 22, 2013. The new and old cut scores are listed below. *Students must meet both the Reading and Writing cut scores in order to be college- ready in English. NEW College Ready Cut Scores Achieved ON or AFTER October 22, 2013 PERT FCAT 2.0 SAT ACT Mathematics 114 N/A 440 19 Reading 106 262 Verbal Writing 103 English 17 College Ready Cut Scores Achieved PRIOR TO October 22, 2013 PERT FCAT 2.0 SAT ACT Mathematics 113 N/A 440 19 Reading 104 262 Verbal 18 Writing 99 English 17

Administering the P.E.R.T.the P.E.R.T.

Before Testing Test Administrator Accounts If you administered the PERT last year, your account is the same as it was in last year. If you have forgotten your username and/or password, please email Connie Tierce at tiercec@lake.k12.fl.us If you are a new high school test coordinator, please contact Connie Tierce at tiercec@lake.k12.fl.us to request an account

Before Testing Security Agreements Before you can begin testing, we must receive a signed security agreement from you Parent Letters English and Spanish parent letters are available in the PERT section of our test coordinator web site. Please distribute the letters to the parents/guardians of students who will take the PERT

Before Testing Scratch Paper Students can use scratch paper for the math portion of PERT, but they must write their name on the scratch paper and return it to you after testing. Practice Tests The College Success login page has a link to sample tests. It is recommended that students complete the sample tests in a classroom environment prior to testing to expedite the actual testing process.

Launching Tests Utilizing the ticketing systems requires the Site Manager to: Log into one workstation to deactivate/activate students Export student information to a spreadsheet Create/print/distribute “tickets” to students the day of testing Collect tickets after testing

Ticketing systemg System Log into College Success (http://www.college.measuredsuccess.com) with your username and password Click Administer Tests and then click View and Export Student Logins

Ticketing system You can search by student name, ID number, or conduct a general search of all names (select ‘search’ without any field filled in for a general search)

Ticketing system Ticketing System Activating and Deactivating Students [Completed by Site Manager] By default, all students show an “Active” status. If you want to use the ticketing system to launch tests, you will need to select all students and click “Deactivate Students” (per page) prior to processing the tickets. On the day of testing, you will need to activate the students who will be testing. After the testing session is over, you will deactivate the students to ensure they can not log back into the test.

Ticketing systemicketing System Exporting Student Data for Ticketing System [Completed by Site Manager] You can export student information for the purpose of generating tickets from the “Student Logins” page (use the “Administer Tests” link to get to the Student Logins page. Unlike activating and deactivating students, you do not have to select all on every page to export all of the students to Excel (or a CSV file). The system does not create tickets like Pearson, so you will need to manipulate the rows into your own ticket design. Please remember to collect the “tickets” after testing. Tickets are secure documents.

Ticketing system Ticketing System Log on to College Success as a Student [Completed by the Student] Visit http://www.college.measuredsuccess.com Students should enter the username and password from their “ticket”

Ticketing system Ticketing System Accepting the Online License Agreement [Completed by Student] The student is now logged into their dashboard (the system times out after 12 minutes of inactivity). The Online License Agreement will appear and you will need to direct students to accept the agreement in order to test.

Ticketing system Ticketing System Entering an Access Key [Completed by Student] After accepting the agreement, students will need to enter the appropriate access key, click “Submit” The student must click the name of test to launch the test

Ticketing system Ticketing System After launching the appropriate subtest, students will need to read the Student Privacy Policy and click “I have read this policy”

Ticketing system Ticketing System Reading the Welcome Message [Completed by Student] After accepting the Privacy Policy, students will need to read the Welcome Message and click “Next”

Ticketing system Ticketing System Reading the Directions for Answering Questions [Completed by Student] Students will need to read the directions for answering questions, and click “Start Test Session”

Ticketing system Ticketing System Reading Subtest Specific Information [Completed by Student] Finally, students will need to read information regarding the specific PERT subtest they are taking and click “Start Test Session” to begin the subtest.

Ticketing system Ticketing System Calculators Students are not permitted to use handheld calculators for the computer version of the Math PERT (there are questions that do not allow a calculator) Inform students of the calculator icon that will be available in the bottom left corner of the test Once the calculator icon has been clicked on, it will appear as a pop-up in the middle of their screen Students must use the electronic calculator keyboard to input numbers

Accessibility Branching Profile Students taking the accessibility branching profile (accommodated test) need to be aware of the “Accessibility Wizard” They need to select the “Access Wizard” icon in the lower left corner of the test The students can then set their preference and save by selecting “Apply”

Submitting a Test Ticketing System Submitting P.E.R.T. Students must click “Submit” at the end of each subtest in order for the test to be scored As the Site Manager, you can instantly view scores and run reports Please refer to the PERT/ TAM for instructions on running reports

After Testing Collect and retain “tickets” Instructions on how to return paper tests and answer sheets will be emailed to schools with students taking paper tests

Next Steps If you haven’t already, please sign and return a Security Agreement before you leave the training. Schools can NOT test without a signed Security Agreement. Review the TAM and log into College Success to familiarize yourself with the test platform.
