Statutory Returns 2015 School Workforce Census Pregnancy Related Absence Equality & Human Rights Commission http://www.equalityhumanrights.com/private-and-public-sector-guidance/employing-people/managing-workers/working-hours-and-time/making-decision-relating-time/pregnancy-related-absence

Statutory Returns 2015 School Workforce Census Pregnancy Related Absence Special rules apply to sickness absence which is related to a woman’s pregnancy or to her having given birth. You should record pregnancy-related illness separately from other kinds of illness and should not count it towards someone’s total sickness record. You should not pay a woman who is absent for a pregnancy-related illness less than the contractual sick pay she would receive if she was absent for any other illness with a statement of fitness to work (‘fit note’). You must not take into account a period of absence due to pregnancy-related illness, or maternity leave, when making a decision about a woman’s employment, for example, for disciplinary purposes or if you’re selecting workers for redundancy. Treat sickness absence associated with a miscarriage as pregnancy-related illness.

Statutory Returns 2015 School Workforce Census Pregnancy Related Absence How to manage this in SIMS or other MIS? Additional absence type not linked to ‘Sickness’ Awaiting guidance – Capita / DfE

Statutory Returns 2015 School Census Spring 2015 DfE database delays Ensure you enter Notes where necessary Temporary UPNs Ensure you have the most up to date Guidance Notes

Statutory Returns 2015 School Census Spring 2015 FSM Eligibility & UIFSM for KS1 pupils all KS1 pupils are entitled to a FSM but be clear which pupils are eligible as this will affect your funding you can offer your part-time pupils a FSM but it has to be every day and not just for Census day if your part-time pupils bring a packed lunch from home, you cannot include them in the numbers for funding. If you provide a packed lunch from school, you can include them make sure you include them in the Census

Statutory Returns 2015 School Census Spring 2015 Final allocation based on actual take-up data derived from an average of the Oct 2014 and Jan 2015 schools censuses In future an average of figures from previous census returns will be used. It is recognised that schools will experience some fluctuations in pupil take-up due to pupil migration, absence etc. but it is expected that a pattern of meal take-up will be established fairly quickly. Schools will be expected to monitor any changing take-up and manage this appropriately within their existing budget

Statutory Returns 2015 School Census Spring 2015 Schools still aren’t recording pupils receiving top up funding correctly. They should usually be statemented pupils who either get additional support (ISPSB) or are in a SEN unit or resource. This means that in January, all pupils shown as being in a unit/resource should also be marked as receiving top up funding Unit/resource indicator not up to date. Many pupils who joined units in September were not on the January census as being in a unit/resource. Schools should only show pupils in a unit/resource where the school has a unit/resource that is funded specifically by the LA. Some schools are using this field to record pupils in other SEN groups. Schools are forgetting to update the part time/ full time indicator and hours at setting indicator for example when a reception pupil who is part time in the autumn term on census day is now full time. Assorted Updates Donna Holloway

Updates SEND14 – Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) extract from DfE Newsletter There are larger than expected numbers of pupils with an SEN provision of ‘E’. Could we remind local authorities that an EHC plan is not just the rebadging of a statement. To ensure that EHC plans are person-centred and focused on outcomes, an EHC plan must only be issued following a ‘transfer review’. If pupils have not been the subject of a review, their SEN provision should not be automatically returned as ‘E’ if it was previously ‘S’. The same applies for the new SEN provision ‘K’ (SEN support) this is not a rebadging of SEN provision ‘A’ (school action) and ‘P’ (school action plus). Therefore it is expected that only new identified SEN pupils and pupils who have had a review should be recorded as SEN support (code ‘K’).
