Internal Strengths of WSSN at Porterville College

Internal Strengths of WSSN at Porterville College

Internal Weaknesses of WSSN at Porterville College Campus participation in low and high touch services (bundled) – Students are not actively being referred or seeking high touch follow-up financial literacy services. Future Plans – Develop a Campus Resource Center to expose students to a one stop shop for services. Expansion of external partner supporting engagement – Partners are conducting workshops (low touch) but have limited opportunities for personal interaction (high touch). Future Plans – Develop a Campus Resource Center to house external partners monthly/weekly on-campus outreach. For each weakness you share for WSSN’s internal programming, please share any future plans or goals your college has for addressing this weakness. It could be a specific deliverable, training, or technical assistance focused.

Porterville College’s External Opportunities for WSSN Expansion of Dual Enrollment Students in Workforce Development Courses– Curriculum has been designed that embeds career/life planning skills within the CTE certificate and degree courses. Future Plans – Deans are meeting with high school principals (P8) to discuss expansion of college course to all area (feeder) high schools to aid student in receiving college course credit. Online Student Orientation System – EAB program is being piloted to embed financial literacy into orientation sessions. Future Plans – We are using the software to direct students to support services based on their profile and responses during the session. Provide a short summary of a few key external opportunities (i.e. outside funding or a community partner) for WSSN that your college is considering in 1-2 sentences. Your college’s presenter has 5 minutes to present this slide. Remember that you can expand on these verbally, so it will be helpful to strive to be concise and clear. For each external opportunity you share, please share any future plans or goals your college has for seeing the potential of this opportunity come to life.

Porterville College External Threats for WSSN Reduction in Categorical Funding – Sustainability of WSSN services, support staff, and funding are tied directly to State funding. Any reduction in funding will impact ability to provide student support. Future Plans – We are exploring grant opportunities to diversify funding services. Provide a short summary of a few key external threats (i.e. state level policy, community partners, funding sources from outside organizations) for WSSN that your college is keeping an eye on in 1-2 sentences. Your college’s presenter has 5 minutes to present this slide. Remember that you can expand on these verbally, so it will be helpful to strive to be concise and clear. For each external threat you share, please share any future plans or goals your college has for addressing this threat, or if it’s a threat that need to be monitored and does not require action you can state that during your presentation.
