A hurricane is a severe tropical storm that forms over warm ocean waters. Evaporation from sea water increases its power. They have winds of at least 75.
Hurricanes Hurricanes form in the water. From space they look like a huge cloud with an eye in the middle. Only a few hurricanes made it to land, when.

WELCOME TO THE FLORIDA WEATHER MUSEUM

Hurricanes If a storm has winds of over 74 mph it is classified as a hurricane. They always form over water. The most strong hurricane ever In the Atlantic basin was Hurricane Wilma at 882 millibars. Many people think Hurricane Katrina was the strongest, this is not true. As Katrina was only in the 1900s in millibar pressure. http://www.floridadisaster.org/kids/stormSurge1.htm

Rain Rain is water. Rain forms when water evaporates from lakes, pools and oceans and rises to the clouds making them heavy with water until they burst and it rains! Expression- “It’s raining CATS and dogs!!”

Tornadoes Tornadoes are swirling funnels of air, wind, hail and rain. The fujita scale is how you measure tornadoes. The strongest being an EF5 and weakest an EF0. The fujita scale is named after the Japanese scientist who invented it. The nickname is twister. How tornados form video http://www.floridadisaster.org/kids/TornVid.html

Flash Floods A flash flood is caused by a storm in a low- elevated area. If there is rain in a high- elevated area, the water will go down. In a low elevated area, its stays because there is nowhere for it to go down. It is a Florida wonder because we get lots of storms and we are low lying; so, there is lots of floods

El Nino and La Nina El Nino is when waters are warm near the equator. This means more Hurricanes Tornadoes and much more bad weather for the east coast.

FLORIDA WEATHER Florida is so hot because it is very close to the equator. We have so much rain because we are a peninsula and there are lots of storms in there ocean so, of course some come to us!

Why Florida Weather is A WONDER!! A, We have so much storms, hurricanes and tornadoes! B, We have the most tornadoes out of all the states! C, We are the only peninsula and all storms form over water, so we could get hit by a double- whammy! (2 hurricanes at once)
