Zeitoun by: Dave Eggers Subsections 1 and 2

In the beginning, the author introduces Zeitoun and his wife, Kathy In the beginning, the author introduces Zeitoun and his wife, Kathy. They both claim that they are hard working and dedicated to their families. During the explanation of their life styles, the author introduces the main conflict in the story, Hurricane Katrina. The author shows that both characters think that the hurricane isn’t a problem at the moment since they are used to hurricanes coming into their area. In their claim, they seem to have a higher knowledge in hurricanes than those who’ve never experienced one. Section 1: Pages 3-22

Kathy is struggling to leave Zeitoun for the safety of her family from Hurricane Katrina. This shows that Kathy is a strong person who is willing to do whatever she can to keep her family safe. The author takes us back on Kathy’s decision of converting to Islam. She explains that it was her decision when the conflict of choosing Christianity over Islam and her mother’s ideas on her converting rises on her choice on what she wanted. Section 2: Pages 50-65
