TELPAS LISTENING AND SPEAKING PRACTICE

TELPAS Test Details: Up to 90 seconds to record (1 ½ minutes) ONLY 2 chances to record: If you do not like your first recording and you decide to record the second opportunity, the first recording is automatically erased.

TEST FACTS: STATE exam (like STAAR and TELPAS Reading) All electronic devices, including iPads, phones, games, and smart watches will be powered off and submitted prior to testing. Your results will affect your classes for next year STATE expectations—you improve one level above from last year Stop at the STOP SIGN and wait for a teacher No dictionaries, translators, or teacher help permitted on the test

Possible Test Items: Listen and click on items based on the audio Look at a picture and select the correct audio clip that matches the picture Make predictions based on a picture/image Use a map to provide directions Use pictures to explain a multi-step process Compare and contrast Take a position on an issue and defend your position

Test Tips: Speak clearly, loudly, and a bit slowly Address/answer the questions Give as many details as possible Start by describing (if asked to) and then continue by “telling a story” about what you see or make a personal connection Use complete sentences Use the entire 90 minutes (“think on your feet”) Keep your hands free and away from the microphone and earphones to allow clear recording
