Graduation Requirements 24 credits 4 Credits English 4 Credits Social Studies (3 credits if you attend Beattie for 2 years) 3 Credits Math (recommend 4) 3 Credits Science (recommend 4) 2 Credits PE (PE= .5 / year) .5 Credit Health 6.5 Credits Electives 1 Credit S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) PROFICIENT Keystone Test Scores in Literature, Algebra, Biology and/or successful completion of the Keystone Practicum Course with a 70%.

College in High School College in High School (CHS) offers regional high school students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit in courses taught right in their high school classrooms. This program provides students the chance to participate in college-level learning experiences before they leave high school, while helping students to establish a collegiate transcript for potential transfer credits in the future. Students are NOT required to take the course for collegiate credit, unless they wish to do so. The following are courses offered for CHS credit. Please note that each college or university requires their own registration and independent payment procedures. Please talk with the teacher of the course at North Allegheny School District for more information. All courses listed below equate with three (3) collegiate credits unless otherwise noted. Should you have questions about whether or not a college or university will accept these credits toward the completion of a Bachelor’s degree, please contact the specific Admissions Office directly. 2018-2019 Scheduling Schedule online via Tyler 360 Student Portal, not Parent Portal. Account information is available in the Counseling Office. February 20th –March 2nd : Student selection process View your teacher recommendations. You cannot change or edit your teacher recommendations through the Student Portal. Your counselor can change or edit teacher recommendations. Select electives (Be certain these are the classes you want). Schedule a minimum of 7 credits and a maximum of 8 credits. March 5th -9th Counselor / Student individual meetings. Review schedule to edit requests or change recommendations.

Scheduling Requirements Students must schedule a minimum of 7.0 credits each year Students who deviate from this requirement must have the approval of the building Principal and/or IEP Team. There are eight (8) instructional periods at the Intermediate and Senior High School. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the many and varied elective courses offered by the district. Students may not schedule more than the equivalent of one full year/full time study hall during the year.

Teacher Recommendations If you are choosing an elective that requires a teacher recommendation in the Program of Studies (ex. Honors Anatomy), you MUST obtain a signed recommendation slip. You will need to bring this signed slip to your individual scheduling meeting the week of March 5th-9th.

NASH POLICIES Student requests will determine staffing for next year. Students are not permitted to switch electives after March 28, 2018. Carefully select courses. Talk to your teachers, counselors, consult Program of Studies and/or Podcasts developed by Curricular Departments located on the Senior High School webpage. No requests for teacher changes will be honored. No requests for lunch changes will be honored. If there is a medical reason for an early or late lunch, a medical note must be provided for that request to be considered. P.E. medical excuses must be updated yearly.

CO-OP Diversified Occupations and Cooperative Work Experience Interested students must schedule: Career Development 1 credit Co-Op (Earn 1 credit per 120 hours of work each semester) 2 Total Credits

Alternate Electives When making your online course requests, you must choose three alternate electives in the event you do not get your first choice electives.

Waivers A waiver is a contract between the school and the student/parent. It provides a course placement that supersedes the teacher recommendation. Example: Teacher recommends Phase III Psychology but the student wants to take AP Psychology. Waivers are available in the Counseling Office. Student must complete the form and obtain the following signatures ( student, parent, current teacher). Forms must be returned to the School Counseling Office by March 28th. Students can only waive 1 level (Example: Academic Physics to Honors Physics). Students can not waive a pre-requisite ( Example: Enrollment in Honors Meteorology requires completion of any Physics course).

NEW WAIVER POLICY Students who waive into a course for which they are unprepared will have the opportunity to transfer to a lower level under these conditions. All student grades in the course into which the student waived will be transferred to the new course Schedules may not be able to be changed based on the current enrollment of courses into which the student is attempting to transfer If a student does withdraw from a course for which a waiver contract has been signed, one of the following consequences will occur for a full year course. (For a semester course, the 40 is replaced with a 20). If withdrawal occurs: during days 1-15 a change in the course may be made without a notation appearing on the student’s transcript. after the 15th day, a “W” will be placed on the official high school transcript. beyond the 40th day of the year or the 20th day of the semester for a semester course an “E” will be placed on the official high school transcript. All grades from the course from which the student has waived will transfer to the new class the student selects.

Schedule Change Policy All students have an opportunity in the spring of each year to select courses appropriate to their needs. Students are also permitted to adjust their course selections prior to March 28, 2018. Following this date, all course selections will be considered final, and schedule change requests will only be considered for the following reasons: 1. Mechanical error Example: Course left off schedule. 2. Level changes Level changes can only occur within the first 40 days of school. Your grade will follow you. After 40 days, level changes will not be permitted. 3. Needed for Graduation Requirement Example: Failed required course and must drop elective or study hall to schedule a make-up course. 4. Fill study hall Example: Replace study hall with an elective course without adjusting any other parts of schedule. Seats must be available, and the change must be made within the first five school days of the semester.

Important Dates March Feb 20th – March 2nd March 5th -9th March 28th Make your course selections. March 5th -9th Counselor / Student individual meetings. March 28th Return your reverse verification form with parent signature to the School Counseling Office. Waivers are due to the School Counseling Office. This is the last day to make changes to your schedule.

Now What? Log on to your STUDENT portal to review your teacher recommendations. English, History, Math, Science, PE, and World Language Select elective courses that match your future interests. Review the Program of Studies and/or watch the podcasts available on the NASH website. Pay attention to course pre-requisites listed in the Program of Studies. Schedule at least 7 credits. Everyone must maintain 7 credits throughout the school year. Choose and enter 3 alternate electives. If you are selecting more than one math or science course, remember that you may need to have a teacher sign the white slip.
