E-learning and game-based learning Experience sharing: English language teaching with Kahoot and Quizlet Pak Kau College Lam Lok Sang, Nicole

Background E-learning within campus iPad for each junior form student Aim To raise learning motivation To engage students in the lessons

School level Students use e-books and iPads during the lessons

Look for useful resources Classroom level Look for useful resources Try to look for useful resources and teaching tools online to incorporate with the lesson

Kahoot https://kahoot.it/ It provides awesome classroom activities fro teachers. It is so easy to use that you don’t even need to read any instructions. Kahoot https://kahoot.it/

Arouse students’ learning motivation through classroom activities Kahoot Coloful lots of attention Students enjoy playing it very much Kahoot

Lead-in Consolidation User-friendly for teachers Instructions are easy and simple Lots of resources shared Lead-in Consolidation Game requires speed and attention Students have to focus on the questions and answer as fast as possible So I would say the game or the question sets should not last too long Normally I would use it as a Lead in (Before lesson starts) to recall their memory of previous knowledge Consolidation (After lesson) to what they have just learned test on

https://quizlet.com/_3qkiyy -Teach vocabulary with visual and audio aids -Encourage self-learning Very interactive group activity Quizlet Flashcards Matching game Quiz(Y/N, MC/Dictation) Group activity

Convenient and easy to make flashcards registered for an acc and created a new study set

Diagrams: teaching vocabulary items in one category (maps, shops, animals…) If teachers want to teach vocab items in the same category , they can use just one diagram to pin point all the vocabs e.g using a food pyramid to teach different types of food, or a world map to teach different countries even a picture like this, So you don’t need to make 10 extra pictures for 10 vocabs

Help students engage in the lesson Interactive classroom activity After teaching them a set of vocabulary items and go through the flashcards with them, I will play Live in the lesson to consolidate what they have just learned

https://quizlet.com/live

Learn vocabulary items with fun among peers Encourage team work (higher ability sslower ability ss) I think it is so fat the best and the most comprehensive platform for students to learn vocabs

Search for different study sets that suit your class

Quizizz https://quizizz.com/join/ Assignment / Activity Instant feedback Instant feedfack Good for evaluating students learning process and their level Quizizz https://quizizz.com/join/
