Public Page, Personal Site, Social Features SP2013 social features mostly rely on data in the person’s personal site and Distributed Cache Two lists are used social features: the Microfeed list and the Social List Personal site document libraries have been re-designed as well Profile Database is still used for following people and tags Personal Site Microfeed Private Public Social Sites Docs My Documents MFs Profile DB We will discus what each list do and how it behaves in the Social infrastructure in the next slides. Social DB is Still there Better scalability There’s no mention of the host and the temporary feed attachments list + Profile photos Social DB

Microfeed List Microfeed List: contains all user and system activity Stores user generated activities (i.e. Microblogging posts) and system generated activities (e.g. Notification of a change in profile or following changes) Users and administrators control which system generated activities are shown as activity feeds via privacy settings in policies Majority of user activities are available to all authenticated users Same for system activities Activities related to content sensitivity are security trimmed (e.g. following a document) Every time a new system activity or user activity happens a new entry is created in this list and in the Distributed Cache* *exceptions apply * Exceptions apply in both cases: there are things that get written only in Velocity and things that get written only in MF list. User Generated activities:                 Microblogging posts System generated activities                 Whatever generated on behalf of the user What gets trimmed before showing in the consolidated feeds WP as well as in your activities WP: Document changes Site changes Tagging content Following document Following sites   Thing that don’t get trimmed: Microblogging posts (exception for the posts in Site Conversations) Tagging microblogging posts Following tags Following people

Privacy Settings Central Administration Settings Available in Central Administration in the User Profile Service Application Administrators govern profile information that users can or cannot manage Users can always override Admin settings regarding activities and following people privacy settings. Simplified compared to SharePoint 2010 Policy settings: Privacy setting is now “Only me” or “Everyone” Personal Site Settings "User can override" does NOT exist anymore, the user will always be able to override the Admin setting. In short: Admin cannot force the user to either share or not share.

Privacy Settings Upgrade from 2010 environments will preserve other privacy settings when different from the one above After migration, any changes to “Only me” or “Everyone” will not allow people to set other privacy settings Although that is still available through OM.

Privacy Settings Admins can also enable a “default“ privacy setting to make people following information and activities public. Blocks administrators in CA from controlling privacy settings of newsfeed activities Message informs administrators that policy control is override If unchecked there are no system activities in Microfeed.
