Week two: The Priority of Prayer

Week one: The Problem of Prayer ‘distress or great sorrow’ Matthew 26:36 ‘introduction to the masses’ Luke 3:21 ‘His Transfiguration’ Luke 9:28-29 ‘to specifically call & preach’ Luke 6:12 “It came to pass in those days, that He went out into a mountain to pray AND CONTINUED ALL NIGHT in prayer to God” “This is the only place where it is recorded that the Saviour spent a whole night in prayer. What was about to take place? When He came down from the mountain He gathered His disciples around Him, and preached that great discourse known as the ‘Sermon on the Mount’ – the most wonderful sermon that has ever been preached. Probably no sermon has done so much good, as it was preceded by a night of prayer.”

And glory has come to me through them.

HOW He Prayed: John 17 Expression: vs.14-17 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. [15] My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. [16] They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. [17] Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

Week one: The Problem of Prayer Luke 11:1 (esv) Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.“ #4. HOW He Prayed: John 17 D.L. Moody: That is the longest prayer on record that Jesus made. You can read it slowly on about four or five minutes. I think we may learn a lesson here. Our Master’s prayers were short when offered in public; when He was alone with God that was a different thing, and He could spend a whole night in communion with His Father…

Week one: The Problem of Prayer Luke 11:1 (esv) Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.“ #WHAT He Prayed #WHERE He Prayed #WHEN He Prayed #HOW He Prayed WHAT we pray revolves around the heart of God and NOT ourselves [James 4:3] for it is when we ask according to His will He hears us [1 John 5:14]; it doesn’t matter WHERE we pray, nor does it matter WHEN for we can enter boldly into the Throne room of grace and find help in time of need [Hebrews 4:16]. It does matter HOW, if our prayers are to be heard and answered; wherein we hear the answer and accept it.

Moody The reason we so often fail in moving our fellowmen is that we try to win them [evangelize] without first getting power with God. Jesus was in communion with His Father, and so He could be assured that His prayers were heard.
