South Med countries

Difficult to say something wide and global

General challenges in the area Economical crisis – political instability or international instability (Impact of Arab Spring on the Region) Growing of unemployment among youth: Tunisia 42,8%, Palestine 35,7%. In Algeria the unemployment decreased due the grants for entrepreneurs by the State.

General challenges in the area Educational system: is not always very inclusive and on the higher level the discrimination is very high. Freedom and democracy: between fears and national movements. The Arab Spring as other freedoms or revolutionary movements in the Regions brought new political and social systems that need times to be consolidated or new unstable situation - Daesh in the Region: Syria case

General opportunities in the area Youth in development and looking for constant opportunity of growing Inspiring practices regarding specific topics as ICL, Interfaith, Refugees Grass roots NGOs very motivated and competent Civil societies: different models Volunteering experiences and youth work at national level

Important to differenciate: Role of youth work Important to differenciate: 2. Mashreq: The youth work is not at all reconised (exception of Israel): the youth workers are volunteers or difficult to define the real role. Maghreb: The youth work is quite well recognized by the state and the youth workers are active in the different youth centers. Youth in Action before and Erasmus + after are often the only programme that allow to work on youth work and non formal education for some NGOs.

Challenges for implementation of Erasmus + in the South Med Region The framework: terrorism, radicalisation… media projection The limited fundings : 25 % Visa Limited mobility National challenges and regulations: laws for tranfer the money, approval of the ministry. Limited budget of Erasmus +
