Informational Update May 23, 2017 Governance Question: Approve the adoption of Wonders curriculum to be implemented in K-1 classrooms beginning Fall 2017.
Pilot Timeline June - August 2016 T & L reviewed multiple curricula using a needs assessment conducted by our K-1 teachers November 2016 All K-1 Teachers participated in presentations from top 3 curricula and voted for their choice to narrow the selection to top 2 curricula December 2016- January 2017 T & L conducted research on curricula and reached out to districts using the products
Pilot Timeline February- March 2017 Eight teachers across all three elementary schools piloted each of the top 2 curricula for 4 weeks April 2017 Findings were presented to the elementary principals, K-5 Literacy Leads and the World’s Best Workforce Committee May 2017 Present recommendation to School Board May - August 2017 If approved, purchase materials 2017-2018 School Year Implementation and Professional Development
Feedback from Pilot Teachers about Wonders Students were engaged and excited about literacy Books were thematic and leveled which allowed all students to access the information Students exposed to many pieces of literature (nonfiction and fiction) Many forms of writing Digital and print resources were very student and teacher-friendly Students growth evident through assessments
Implementation Plan for 2017-2018 Materials Purchase teacher materials in May/June 2017 to use this school year Student materials will be purchased in July 2017 and ready for teachers in August Professional Development Offer optional training in June August back to school training Training/Support throughout the school year 2017-2018
