Vocab Basketball!!! WWI

Alliance a formal agreement or treaty between two or more nations to cooperate for specific reason.

Militarism To glorify military action and to build up you army to compete with other nations.

Neutrality Policy of supporting neither side of a war.

Propaganda Spreading of ideas to promote a cause (such as a war effort)

Total War War that requires all the resources and people of one country be involved in the war effort.

Draft/Conscription Selective Service Act: Required all young men to apply for military service, if selected you must go to war.

Assassination To kill suddenly or secretively, especially a  politically prominent person. The assassination of a political leader was one of the main causes of WWI.

Ultimatum A final set of demands

Mobilize To prepare your military forces to go to war.

Stalemate A deadlock in which neither side is able to defeat the other.

U-Boats Nickname for a German submarine.

Convoy Groups of merchant ships protected by military ships or vehicles.

Atrocities Horrible acts committed during war on innocent people.

Reparations (Hint: money/war) Payment for war damages, using the losing side has to pay this.
