World in Rubbish…… City in Rubbish…… Life in Rubbish……

What are good ways to solve the problem of rubbish / garbage?

Listen to the dialogue and write true or false 1. There is a lot of garbage: glass, metal, plastic and paper. ( ) 2. There is the most amount of glass and the least amount of paper. ( ) 3. Danny found Debbie’s toy car in the garbage. ( ) 4. Danny once cut his foot on a piece of broken glass. ( ) T F F T

Read the dialogue and answer the following questions Why are Danny and Jenny surprised after sorting the garbage? How do people waste paper? What will Danny do with the broken toy car? Why is it dangerous to drop litter / rubbish carelessly?

Read the dialogue and answer the following questions Why are Danny and Jenny surprised after sorting the garbage? Because almost all of it can be reused or recycled! They need to throw only one small bag of garbage.

Black Others except recyclable waste Blue Recyclable Green Glass Red Harmful Black Others except recyclable waste

Read the dialogue and answer the following questions 2. How do people waste paper? They use paper only on one side. 3. What will Danny with the broken toy car? He will take it home and clean it. Then he will fix the broken wheel. Finally he will give it to Debbie.

Read the dialogue and answer the following questions 4. Why is it dangerous to drop litter / rubbish carelessly? Because litter can hurt people.

Read the dialogue and find out other sentences with it It is dangerous to leave broken glass on the ground. It is not right to waste things. It is a waste to use paper only on one side. “It” can be used to refer to time, weather, distance or something mentioned before. Have a look at more examples in Ex.2 on P119.

Do you know this? 1 recycled tin can would save enough energy to power a television for 3 hours. 1 recycled glass bottle would save enough energy to power a computer for 25 minutes. 1 recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for 3 hours.

Suppose you have some used plastic bottles. What can you do with them?

Extended Reading Garbage sorting is sweeping the world, because all the cities around the world are facing mountains of garbage produced every day. In developed countries, the recycling rate of garbage is much higher, thanks to their sorting systems. Take Japan for example. In the past 4 years, the Japanese city of Kamikatsu has raised its recycled waste to 80%. In Japan, garbage is sorted into four big groups: burnable (可燃的) waste such as household food scraps (残羹剩饭), non burnable waste such as broken glass and batteries, plastic containers as well as recyclable waste such as newspaper and magazines. Hard rubbish such as desks and old TV sets has another system. Each city in Japan determines (确定) its own rules. “In Japan, you cannot throw away your garbage every day, and the garbage must be sorted out. You have to put the right garbage in the right place at the right time. Qs: 1. How many groups do the Japanese sort their garbage? What are they?

1. Finish exercises of Lesson 45. 2. Preview next lesson. Homework 1. Finish exercises of Lesson 45. 2. Preview next lesson. 3. Tell your parents and your friends about the knowledge we learnt today and sort and reuse garbage together.

Thanks!
