Epic Referrals The referral option in Epic allows PCPs to communicate directly to CHS specialists online to obtain continued advanced treatment of our patient population. It also allows CHS specialists to record incoming referrals from Non-CHS providers to maintain accurate records of patient care and billing. The referral forms can be accessed from the Epic button.

Epic Referrals Click on the Referrals command, then click on the Referral Entry option.

Epic Referrals The Select Referral window will appear. You can open an existing referral two ways: by patient name and by referral number. Epic will utilize the patient lookup window when searching for a patient via the referral entry form. When the user enters partial name search criteria such as the first three letters of the lastname and the first three letters of the firstname, the select patient window will display, giving you the opportunity to ensure that the correct patient is selected. Click on the “Search” button.

Epic Referrals If there are no referrals on that patient, a message will appear to inform you. You can create a new referral from this window and from the patient’s appointment desk depending on your security. Click on the “New” button to proceed to the next screen.

Epic Referrals If there are referral(s) on this patient, they would appear within the “Referral Lookup” window. Click on the appropriate referral (based on the criteria presented: i.e. creation date, insurance, referred by and to, status and start/end dates), click “Accept” to proceed to the next screen.

View Only Referral Access After selecting the appropriate referral, you can view the details of the referral.

View Only Referral Access The referral will display with all of the fields grayed out. You can move between forms by clicking on the forms Once you have finished viewing the referral, click the Cancel button. You can Print the referral from the Print option located on the toolbar.

Epic Referrals – Appointment Desk You can also view directly from the patient’s appointment desk. Located within the “Patient Options” menu, click on the drop down arrow and select the “Referrals” option.
