DPMT OVERVIEW Status Upon Acquisition DPM Ownership 100% Location Namibia Acquisition March 2010 $50M Primary Technology / Product Ausmelt Products Blister copper, H2SO4 Emissions, dust-capture upgrades $110M 2016 concentrate throughput 200 000 t Sulphuric acid capture plant (Q4 2015) $243M Holding furnace (2017) ~$50M Expanded smelter capacity 370 ktpy Built in 1960-62. Commissioned 1963. Designed to treat complex ores from Tsumeb Mine containing high levels of copper, lead, zinc, arsenic and cadmium. Environmental and health challenges during ‘80s and ‘90s; Pb, As and SO₂ emissions above international standards for years. New furnace (Ausmelt) built and commissioned in 1996 to treat Lead. Namibia’s copper mines closed in 2008. Ausmelt re-commissioned 2008 for Copper treatment. DPM purchased the Smelter from Weatherly Mining in March 2010. Production capacity increased from 147,000 t concentrate in 2010 to a current capacity of 240,000 tpa. 08/11/2018

WORK OF ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT Environmental management – Air Quality Five Air Quality Stations, US EPA certified Dust (PM10, 2.5), SO2 , Arsenic (As2O3), Pb, Cd, Pb and Fallout Dust Groundwater Surface water Hazardous Waste Disposal Facility (HWDF) EMP implementation 08/11/2018

WORK OF ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT (CONT…) Projects/studies – Contaminated Land Assessment (LCA) Biodiversity & ecological indicators Small mammal sampling as indicators of environmental health Phytoremediation Nursery Surface Water infrastructure upgrade Groundwater contamination control and treatment options (tender awarded). 08/11/2018

WORK OF ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT (CONT…) Stakeholders Engagement and Feedback – Collaboration with MWAF Inter-Ministerial Technical Committee Information Display Assurance – Engineering designs Licensing and Compliance Independent Auditing Certified monitoring equipment Use of accredited laboratories 08/11/2018

CHALLENGES Legacy soil contamination (decades of mining and smelting) Groundwater water quality Surface water infrastructure Disposal of Hazardous Waste Fugitive emissions Managing external perceptions, e.g. NGOs, Community etc. Absence of clear national legislations (or standards) 08/11/2018

SUCCESSES A number of ongoing projects and studies (body of knowledge) Sulphuric Acid Plant ( positive SO2 trends) Plant infrastructure upgrades Alien Species control programme (Tree Award-2016) Community outreach (Arbor day involvement with schools, Old Age homes etc) Enhanced capacity within environmental team. Good relations with authorities Technical Committee-Close out audit in progress Internal systems and processes in place for environmental monitoring 08/11/2018

WHAT MORE COULD BE DONE? Explore further appropriate Engineering controls to reduce releases into the environment Arsenic Vitrification Pilot Plant Complete current environmental studies / projects Implement key recommendations from the number of studies that have been conducted Improve / Strengthen the internal and external audit system Continue and Expanding monitoring programme Integrated Waste Management Plan 08/11/2018

PRPOSED ASPECTS INTO ENV. SECTION OF STRATEGIC PLAN Platform for MDs and Executives to learn of impacts and solutions to environmental problems in the sector Create a platform to drive environmental stewardship and awareness in the mining sector External Advocacy To define the support the forum can render in the process of national legislation e.g. capacity building in GRN Influence Policy Allow for inter-mine visits and learnings Should not be a professional organisation (not to be used as tool for professional accreditation) 08/11/2018
