What makes a person a “false teacher?” False teachers distort major doctrines AND/OR have ulterior motives.

False Teachers …(false teachers) overthrow whole households by (content:) teaching what they shouldn’t (motive:) in order to get money dishonestly. Titus 1:11

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly bring in (content:) destructive heresies, even denying the Master…. (motive:) They will exploit you in their greed with deceptive words. 2 Peter 2:1, 3

What makes a person a “false teacher?” False teachers distort major doctrines AND/OR have ulterior motives.

So what do we do now? Keep your eyes open, don’t be gullible, and “test” what you hear. BUT, don’t “play angry.” Live with joy and trust! Don’t be too eager to label someone as a false teacher.

The people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, since they welcomed the message with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. Acts 17:11

So what do we do now? If you determine that someone is a false teacher: stop listening to them, or listen with exceeding discernment
