Counting by Weighing By knowing the average mass of all the jelly beans, we don't have to count them out anymore We can count out the jelly beans just by weighing them

Measuring Matter Chemists require a convenient method for counting accurately the number of formula units in a substance The mole is the SI unit for the amount of a substance There are approximately 6.022 x 1023 formula units in 1 mole of any substance or element This number is known as Avogadro’s number

Coverting Moles to Particles We can use Avogadro’s number as a conversion factor to convert moles to formula units Ex: How many atoms are in 2.50 moles of Zn?
