Effect of Different Colours Color – color is made up of hue, intensity, and value. Hue or tint refers to the name of the color (red or blue). Intensity is the purity and strength of a color (dull red or bright blue). Value means the lightness or darkness of a color. Color is used by artists to represent the way things really look and, also, to create feelings. The effect of color on the viewer may be stringer than any other element. Effect of Different Colours RED: energy, excitement, emotion, danger, passion. It is always intense and demands to be noticed. PINK: happy, carefree, young ORANGE: warm, active,/contemplative, soft YELLOW: energetic, bright, of light quality GREEN: variable – environment, sickness, poison BLUE: contemplative, hopeful, deep, the colour of surprises, harmony VIOLET: royalty, mysticism, passion BROWN: earth, life, growth/decay BLACK: drama, death, elegance, seriousness WHITE: purity, innocence

Harmony – the quality that binds the parts of a visual image into a whole. It is often created through simplicity and repetition. Use of line: Can direct the eye and create movement. Line – the basic unit of any image that has both length and direction. Straight lines often suggest order. Jagged lines can suggest power, fear or confusion. Curved lines may suggest motion or softness. Diagonal lines can suggest motion or tension. Use of line: Can direct the eye and create movement. A horizontal line is calm, a horizon. Jagged lines are anxious and tense. Movement is suggested by wavy, curvy or jagged lines. Thick lines suggest emphasis. Thin lines suggest softness. Directional lines can create emphasis. Repeating lines create unity.
