Trauma Informed Approaches The Kaleidoscope – why?

Kaleidoscope is for anyone! The whole point is the “how” you do it. What works in Key stage 1 won’t work in Key stage 3. What works with one set of students, won’t work with another. The key to implementation is the knowledge and the leadership. We need to unpack the school/key stage/class situation and adapt the programme for that circumstance. Our curriculum is innovative and broad to cater for the varying needs of our learners. Where required, we have the flexibility to be bespoke with an individual learner’s curriculum to ensure their needs are catered for and that they are best prepared for further education, employment or training in modern Britain. The curriculum will cater for individual needs through specialist approaches – SEMH/ASD/SLCN Kaleidoscope Learning Process (KLP)

BEFORE WE CONTINUE...

KALEIDOSCOPE LEARNING PROCESS- TRAUMA INFORMED PRACTICE Kaleidoscope is a learning process which delivers content, based upon a deep understanding of the need for human connection first; therefore facilitators/deliverers must recognise and understand character education, neuroscience and certain psychological theories before delivering skills and content KLP has been created around the cycle and link between pedagogy, human connection and psychology and without these components working together, KLP will not work. The main theories that need to be used are: Attachment Theory Emotional Health and Wellbeing (latest research) Neurolinguistics (de-codification of behaviour) Transactional analysis Psychodynamic theory Social Intelligence

BRAIN CHEMISTRY AND EDUCATION: WHY IT’S IMPORTANT... Classrooms should not look like classrooms…

THE CHEMICALS AT PLAY – When the Adults Change Everything Changes… There are four primary chemicals in the brain that affect happiness: Dopamine Oxytocin Serotonin Endorphins. Each one is activated in a different way. By designing daily experiences that activate these chemicals, you can increase your happiness, productivity and trust. There are three primary chemicals that impact on stress levels: Adrenaline Cortisol Norepinephrine. Thanks to the work of our sympathetic nervous system, the “fight or flight” system that takes over when we're stressed, when you see your boss’ name in your inbox late at night, your body reacts like there's a lion on the loose. Shape interventions and curriculum

SHARE IDEAS Endorphins Dopamine Serotonin Oxytocin Exercise Laughter Treats such as dark chocolate Positive social group times Scaffold learning Break activities down into small tasks Make achievable targets Initiate lessons with an open question Foods Acknowledgement of success and completion of tasks Rewards Recognition Acknowledgement Celebrations ie birthdays Sun exposure Gratitude practices Saying thank you and well done Human contact Hugs Arm touches etc Eye contact Giving gifts Being explicitly cared for ie Scientific Nurture/human connection
